Subject: New truck - Horsepower? IP: Logged
Message: I just got a 2001 Dodge Dakota 4.7, 3.92, 5-spd single cab, patriot blue. I was wondering what would be the least expensive way to add a considerable amount of horsepower to my truck?

Message: Well, I'm 17 and know very very little about trucks and how to make them perform better. I've read many of the topics in the site and as of right now I know that the K&N GenII FIPK is the better airfilter, right? I'm trying to learn about stuff so I don't get screwed when I go to the store to get something for my truck... Thanx and hope you or somebody can help me.

Message: I'm in the same boat. I have no clue about motors. But I've spent the last week going through this forum and I now have a pretty good idea of what pieces and parts I should use to get started. From everything I've read, the popular mods are:
Exhaust - Some catback from flowmaster or dynomax.
Intake - Z-Tube or build your own if you're feeling brave.
Chip - The Jet Stage II or the mopar pcm. Haven't getten a clear idea of what the differences are yet.
Bernd is pushing the Flometrics TBs pretty hard.

Message: Jason,
There is a guy named Bernd that seems to be able to help people in your position. No offense to others but he is patient and has good explanations. Address a topic using his name. that will get his attention. Ask some basic questions and you will learn pretty quick.
Good luck with your new Dakota and be careful because the setup you have is pretty darn fast from the factory. :-)

Jason,
At the bottom of either the General or Performance forum board you'll see a search box. Type in 4.7 and press go. You'll see quite a few posts about increasing your Dakota's performance. This will give you a little better idea of what's out there and what works.
Just a word of caution, though ... something that works on a 3.9, 5.2 or 5.9 may not work on your 4.7 because of the engine design. Some examples of this would be K&N's Gen2 (look for the Z Tube posts)and MSD 6A.

Message: Bob... Where can i see a picture of what the FIPK (Fuel Injection Performance kit) includes? Is it just a CA intake system? What's the whole fuss about it?
