Message: I just tried the JetII chip on my 4.7 2001 Dakota and it did absolutely nothing to improve the performance. It did not change the shift point or the 5500 rpm rev limiter.
I borrowed it from my brother in law's 2000 4.7, he is also disappointed with the chip and will return it. Both trucks have KNN filters and flow master exhaust. Called SpeedTweeker.net and ordered the IAT adjuster for $34.00. I will report my results when I receive the IAT.
p.s. The KNN air filters and Flow Master exhaust did more to enhance the performance than the chip.

If it was a stage II, there are some other things needed for it to be enhanced.
So we need to know these things to assist you....

It's a stage 2 P/N 90002S
My truck has Drop in KN Filter , Magnaflow catback 3 inch single and 3923S.
I have the 180 degree Thermo but its not installed yet. The last time I filled up I used Union 76 mid grade I thinks it's 89 octane. I will be filling up tomorrow so I will try the 91 octane.
See if that helps....

Message: Ben,
You may have a bad chip. Myself and others have had a nice performance increase with the chip. It doesn't change the 5500rpm rev limiter or the top speed limiter. What it does is change the fuel curve/advances timing. As for the muffler increasing performance, all you will get is increased noise and probably lose some bottom end in the 4.7. Ken Bell dynoed a 4.7 with open exhaust from cat back and the difference was less than 1 horsepower. The filter drop in may give you a few hp but in this V8 you could not tell by the seat of your pants. You may want to send chip back for an exchange. The only fair way to compare is to either dyno the before and after or compare your track times before and after. I believe Jet only claims a horsepower increase of 18-22 with the Stage II so don't expect miracles. 20 extra horsepower pushing a 5000lb truck is not a lot.
Regards,
Craig

Message: Craig, My wife has a 1999 Tahoe with two flow masters and a hypertech programmer that made a big power increase in a well over 5000lb 4x4 truck. Her truck is faster then my dakota with the Jet chip. I Also have a 1995 stock 3/4 ton Dodge van with a 318 235hp and it will give my dakota a good run and that is well over 5000lb. I love my dakota but the 4.7 is under powered if the muffler and filter only made a 3hp increase. It helped more than the chip, hope the chip is bad. I will get my IAT on Monday thank you for the info.

Message: In a JET stage II you MUST have 91 Octane (or higher), 180 degree t-stat, and a low restrictive exhaust, usually this means headers. Otherwise I doubt you will see the gains you were hoping.
If it was a stage I, there arent any special mods that need to be included.

Message: I have both a Stage 1 and Stage 2 Jet Chip.
I got the Stage 1 when I had very limited modifications and it worked great. It made my truck run better on regular gas than it did on Super unleaded. I could tell a very substantial difference in performance when I did not have it installed.
I got the Stage 2 after I installed a few more mods (Headers, 3" exhaust, K&N drop in filter, 180 Thermo, Under drive pulleys, etc). It works great for me.
I haven't used any of the other devices that are being discussed. The IAT sounds interesting and CHEAP.
My limiter is set at 110 MPH.

"The ECM in the vehicle looks at various sensors such as manifold vacuum, coolant temperature, throttle position and RPM, it then processes this information and adjusts spark timing, air/fuel ratio and other parameter according to the tables stored in the JET Performance chip/module memory. By recalibrating these tables we are able to tune the engine for the maximum horsepower and torque under various driving conditions.
By installing the JET chip or module these extra increases in performance enhance drivability, towing capabilities, reduce ¼ miles times and provide improved overall efficiency"
The IAT box changes the temperature the computer thinks it is...from 18 degrees to 215 degrees. The colder the computer think its is..the richer the engine runs...aka...more gas is being pushed through the injectors..which in turns creats more HP.
The 2 work well together. Ill have some results of what they do in a couple weeks when i get back from the track...
I was running 16.2 the last time with 91% humidity...full tank of gas..and 300 lbs of dry weight in the bed.
Mods include:
Dynomax Dual exhasust (custom bent)
Quick D Intake
Autolite plugs.
180 thermostat.
Ill keep everyone posted...

Message: I have noted too that the jet stage 2 chip did nothing to improve the 4.7l that was noticed. best bet is to have a performance shop with the equipment to reflash the factory computer. i also noted that kenne bell now offers an overnight program for $350 to reflash your stock computer and overnight it back. no by pass chip will do this. and yes for all the jet chip fans my truck has most of your little tweeks. and if this chip did what it said it would it would denotate with 87 octane and run hot especially in the arizona desert with out a cooler t-stat. hytech performance in phoenix also has the equipment to reflash the computer which will also improve shift points and top speed limiter.

We could use dyno results on the Chip also, I had Stage II on my 99 3.9 with exhaust/intake mods and couldn't really tell any difference. The IAT adjuster information can be found on www.speedtweaks.com. Their banner is at the top of page usually, just click on it and goto "tips and tricks"(I think that is what it's called). You will find all sorts of good info on IAT's and everything else, it seems the IAT adjuster is worth its weight in gold:) so I am getting one once it warms up:(

Message: You people are nuts. The Jet chip is crap and I find it hard to believe anyone here saw any gains from it at all. Also, 92+ octane is not necessarily needed with this 'mod'. I have the Mopar PCM and I run 89 octane with no pinging at all. Any 'gains' the Jet may make, the stock ECM or PCM will correct. If you can't get the PCM (01 & up), there are companies out there that can reprogram the ECM's to advance timing and remove the speed limiter, but you're still screwed on moving the shift points higher. Do yourself a favor and go buy a R/T (00 or older if you want a PCM) if you want Dodge performance (or turbocharge your 4.7), or fork out the bucks and buy a Lightning.
