I just bought JBA headers for my 2000 RT. Do I need to get the y-pipe too? Also, what exhaust systems or mufflers should I look at? For the muffler would it be the 3" in/out? Please help

i do not know about the y pipe but i do know that R/T's sound sweet with Borla 3 in with 2 out. its exspensive but will add horsepower and is well worth it.

Yes, get the Y pipe. The factory Y is only 1 9/16" in the factory crimped bends. The JBA Y is a mandrel bent 2" diameter pipe to a 2 1/2" collector. Your RT already has a Walker Ultra-Flow 2 1/2" muffler from the factory. I am soon going to install a Random 3" cat, and a 3" Magnaflow on my truck. I am also going to remove the 2 1/2" collector from the Y and use 3" to give me a full 3" exhaust front to back.

So having a 2 1/2" collector means I would need a 2 1/2" in 3" out? Do mufflers add good flow or would I be better off getting an exhaust system like a cat back? Sorry but I'm not very knowledgable.

As Hot R/T says, get the Y pipe. In fact don't bother putting headers on unless you change the Y pipe.
A muffler with less back pressure will help and a cat back system is even better. The head pipe between the cat and the muffler will be bigger with the cat back system and any bends will be mandrel bent. "Mandrel bent" means the bends are smooth and maintain the same size as the straight part of the pipe. factory systems and local muffler shops have crimped bends that are both rough and decrease the size of the pipe in the bend. Hope this helps you.
Normally the size in and the size out should be the same on a muffler for us "hot rodders". Factories will install mufflers that have a smaller outlet than the inlet. This helps the muffler in it's job to quieten the noise but restricts flow. Some people like larger outlet sizes to make theirs louder.
Choosing the right stuff can be confusing but building your own system to get the results you want is the fun part of it.
