Subject: Have a question on the IAT adjuster
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a couple of questions on the IAT adjuster. The website says the new Gen II or III, or whatever are here. Also, it mentions elsewhere that they want to have the proper harnesses available so that the wires don't have to be cut.

Questions:

Are the new boxes available? If so, does anybody have any pics of the new boxes?

Do the new boxes have the plugs or do the wires still need to be cut?

Can this thing be flush mounted?

Are the leads long enough to reach into the front console?

And, is the sensor in the front of my intake man. the iat sensor? I have a '01 4.7L.

Thanks!

I bought a box right as Bernd switched to the new ones. I don't have any pictures though. It's a rectangular box about 3"x2"x1". I suppose you could flush mount it if you don't mind cutting some holes in your dash. I mounted mine using some heavy duty "radar detector" velcro under my dash in front of my shifter.

From what I understand, Bernd was not able to obtain the factory style connectors so you wouldn't have to cut the wires. The adjuster comes with those new "Posi-Lock" connectors instead, which work pretty well. You'll have to cut the factory wires.

Your IAT sensor is located on the driver side of the motor next to the throttle body mounted on the composite intake manifold.

The leads are pretty long, so I don't think you will have any problems reaching the front of the center console.

This is one thing that makes no sense, the IAT sensor information is not even read by the PCM when you floor it,other times it does, but when you punch it,it only reads the 02 sensors and throttle position sensor,I just hate to see all of you spend your money on something that you could do yourself. If you have a after market intake,go to the dealer and buy a new IAT sensor,$10.00,drill a 1/2" hole in your intake tube(especially K&N gen II) about 3" behind the heat shield and thread it into the plastic tube. Then disconnect the clip from the stock IAT sensor and plug it into the new one, make sure you drill your hole where the wires can reach. Then it is reading colder air,and is almost free. But in all honesty,I did this a long time ago,I didnt really notice anything.Even though it was probebly reading about 100 degrees or more in the stock location, now it is reading anywhere from 50 to 80 degrees in the tube.Save your money for proven mods.

The pcm does read IAT at full throtle,I have one it works better than I expected.Does anyone want to buy my jet chip(proven mod??)it slowed me down 2/10s in the 1/4? At 95 degrees the IAT adjuster set at 11:00 knocked of 3/10s! with no other computer mods.$450.00 headers have a hard time doing that.

No the Jet chip is not proven,it does absolutly nothing, just sets a code in the PCM that tells it has a coil failure, plug ins dont work for the Dodge PCM's,you must program the PCM,not try and fool it.You got 3/10 in the 1/4 mile from the IAT sensor adjuster, was that a run without it,then an immediate run after with it?I doubt it.Different day I would think.Which would not be a good judge of the mod. What was the before and after e.t. and mph if you dont mind me asking, but real time slips only please.

The PCM does in fact read the IAT sensor at WOT. Just moving the IAT sensor will let the PCM see a slightly lower air temp reading but you probably wouldn't see that much of a timing move from that. Especially if you are talking about driving in hot weather. The underhood temps will easily reach 200 degrees. With the IAT adjustor, you can influence the PCM by as much as 4 degrees of timing advance. With the advance of the timing, it also adds some fuel. Both are required for more horsepower. Even if it had no effect at WOT (which it does), the increased driveability is definately worth the price. You should try one!

I've got one on my 01, 4.7 Quad, it's always turned off! When it's on, after a few days, miles, or whatever, it throws a mil light, turn it off, and drive awhile, and the Mil goes off.

Since I basically never turn it on, I'll consider selling mine. Damn, did a nice install in the ashtray a few years ago too!

If you're interested, e-mail me.
