Subject: Increasing Fuel Economy... IP: Logged
Message: Can someone tell me what they think are the best options to increase the Fuel Economy in the 5.2L V8?
I have heard about changing out the filtering system (but which way should you go with it?), but I was wondering what else probably should be done to get my Dak up to about 15 - 16 MPG or better in the city.
Also, what is the approximate cost of these options... Thanks.

If it were me, I'd go with a good air intake system (I use K&N) first off. Then, I'd go with an upgraded exhaust system, like a better high flow muffler. If you can afford headers, do that too.
Then I'd run a good aftermarket ignition system (I use a Jacobs Omni Torquer) for better fuel combustion in the cylinders.
An aftermarket performance chip will make you run 91 Octane and is made for hp gains, rather than mpg gains. But I have one anyways, and when you total up all these mods, I'm getting 18.75 mpg on highways in my 4x4. And that includes the 2" lift and 31" BF Goodrich tires.
oh yeah, and dont forget about a quality synthetic oil. I get a little better mpg's from a good synth oil in the engine. All these mods make your engine more efficient, and thus more hp's and mpg's.
Just my $.02
