Check the new airaid for 2001 4.7's. A 7 inch pipe coming out of the top hat with a k&n filter slapped on the end and a useless heat shield. Only 159 bucks American you say? Well sh1t grab my checkbook and send one of those things up to Canada. Oh and throttle body spacers with grooves that channel the air to increase combustibility and fuel mixture, thats a rip. Anyone who buys this should look at a TORNADO, it would probably do more for you than those little threads. So, where can i find a 7"x 3" diameter chrome pipe to make an intake?

That does look pretty useless. Check out the one for the 3.9 V6

I just wonder if it would have access to enough air with the filter sitting where it is. Some of the homemade ones I've seen look like they would do a much better job with the filter positioned down at the front of the truck.

I have one on my 4.7 and it seems to work fairly well. It still pulls some cool air from the stock duct work from the fender. May not as good as the K&N but from my understanding almost all of the cold air kits gave around the same hp gain. I am waiting on the z-tube though just because it looks better and I have heard good things about them.

You know whats sad is that you are all hyped about your intake. Get some real mods for the truck if you want to see a big difference. So how much cold air can you take in when your sitting at a stop light....hmmm?

I have an Airaid system and like it. I wanted to do the K&N thing but didn't want the drop in filter. The Airaid allowed me that, plus an element that will last forever, and most likely better airflow. I certainly didn't expect or get 10 hp. The system seems very durable and well designed and installed in about three minutes. Worth $145 to me especially when I don't have to worry about plastic melting under my hood. Seems to me that if one really wants some significant power gains, something more than a pipe and an air filter is necessary.

UFO1> Speaking for those of us with leased
vehicles, i can only say that we are limited as
to the extent of our modifications we can
perform. Its not a matter of cost but the chance
of voiding factory warranty. With a 2001 myself.
the 5 year 100000km warranty is too good to
mess with. Exhausts, intakes, chips and
suspension upgrades are the only sensible
upgrades for me.

Sure, they're not the best for the performance minded...but they still are much better than stock.

I have an Airaid on my 2000 3.9L V6 CC. Bought it before finding this site. Try this, I added approximately 5 inches of PVC pipe to bring the filter as close to the front as possible (removed the rubber flap of course). Seems to help.

Thats true. some people dont want to void their warranty. The airaid kit is a nice mod. It is not a joke at all and when you punch the gas you can hear the amount of air it takes in...My intake sound slike a honda exhaust...now thats funny!
