I've ordered a set of Edelbrock Headers (because they are the only ones who seem to make a model for my Old 87 dak) I haven't installed them yet, but I'm just curious as to how much performance increase i can expect. i have a 3.9 L V6 with stock muffler and new cat.

I would say you should gain about 10-12 hp , but you should really swap out that stock muffler if you want more power , if you dont want alot of noise get a straight through design , like a dynomax or borla , not to much noise and should give you about another 5 ponies.Goodluck with your Dak.

Thanks. Right now my finances are going to limit me to just the headers. I was just trying the headers because i've been told they wouldhave a more drastic effect on performance. They weren't cheap. I paid $230 dollars for the headers.

Headers...get them and put them on! I just put my JBA headers on last weekend and you wouldn't believe it! I don't know about the horses, but I just know the amount of torque that I recieved from the headers was awsome as far as I was concerned. I say this b/c I had little bitty tires before I had my 32" bfg's. Lost all my torque at the low rpm's. Put the headers on and gained it all back plus some. It also evened out my rpm band. No dead spots, no hesitation to haul a##!! It was awesome.
Thats my opinion. I paid 3** for them and I think it was all worth it.
PS Just put flowmaster 40 series on my truck with 3" pipe. Lost some power, but I still have more then when I started. Just need to add the intake to get the power back up, but thats another month of saving from On the Border!!

Donald, that old pre-Magnum 3.9 definately needs help - it only puts out about 120 horsepower! Due to the TBI you are limited to how much of a gain the parts will give, but headers, a low restriction exhaust and a low restriction intake will help.
The book "Six Cylinder Engines" from Mopar Performance has a lot of info on the 3.9s. For instance, they recommend that the pipes from headers to the muffler be a minimum of 2/5" in diameter, and that tailpipes be a minimum 2 1/8". They also state that headers ( theirs! ) will give a good performance increase per dollar spent.

yeah, Its a little too late :( The new headers were shipped out last week. I should get them around Wednesday.
But, I've heard great things about Ederbrock or how ever you say, or type it. :) I don't mind paying for good things as long as they perform well.
