Message: John,
I have had a KB on a 98 Dak. 5.2 4x4 for about a year. I also have the "Big Gulp" option which was worth the extra money.
It has not been as rewarding as I had hoped until just recently. I am not sure I would do it again due to drivability problems that I have just been able to clear up. Don't believe that I got more than about 75 extra hp. out of it.
I think that the KB is really better suited to an auto installation due to the rpm variation you get with every shift.
Also I had a lean out condition right before the auxillary jets come on. The lean out would cause a noticable "bump" on almost every shift and was very noticable when using cruise control. Neither KB nor my professional installer were able to solve that problem. I was able to solve the lean bump just a few weeks ago with three simultanious changes.
One was to install a Hypertec module to the PCM. Two was to install a 160 degree thermostat. Three was to put a one way valve in the vacumm line that goes from the KB to the MAP sensor on the throttle body. That fix can be found in the free area of Speedtweaks.com.
After over a year the truck now drives as I hoped it would. It is still not a tire burner, but the throttle response from about 2500 to about 5k rpm now makes the truck a real pleasure to drive.
The last issue I am having is that I am about to install my third drive belt. The first one began to squeek and the second one is beginning to separate. My installer is to check next week to make sure I don't have a misaligned pully.
If you would like to send me your phone no., I would be glad to call to discuss further.

Message: my friend has a 500HP buick GN and he says KB stuff is crap. (KB is in to the grand nationals big time)
i have heard of one guy that bought a 3" cat back system for a cyclone for around $350. when examining the muffler, he found out that they (Kenny Bell) took a $50, 2 1/2" turbo muffler and air sawed off the inlet and outlet pipe and welded a 3" pipe onto it. you could still see the saw scratches on the muffler. so what he got was a 3" pipe that had 1/2" blocked off when it went into the muffler.
he went back and got his money back.
go with a vortec, you will get about 40 more HP out of it than the KB.
