The EVAP canister is located below the vehicle, inside the left frame rail, in front of the fuel tank on the 2001 QC.

I got in my truck this morning and the mil light comes on and stays on. I bought my 2001 QC 4.7 in Sept. I have put on 360 CAI, autolites 3923, and a Gibson single. Those parts were installed in Sept. and did not get a mil light until this morning. I don't have a scan tool and is there a way to get the code without one?

My engine light in my 4.7L 2000 Dakotahas gone on several time within 70k miles. I've had three gas caps, one fuel tank seal, and now that pump they hide under the battery was replaced. I swear any vehicle with too many electronics should be crushed into a cube. And I'm next in line.

I've got a 01 QC 4x4 4.7l ...just this past summer I had a check engine light and it wound up being a return line to the evap canister and/or fuel system return line that was cracked...it took them all of 15 minutes to replace. The techs at first thought there was a problem with the gas cap or tank seal. The line was cracked near the brake master cylinder just before it goes down under the truck

My 2001 4.7 SLT Durango had the MIL go off with code P 0442. Appointment is today, i'll post costs/findings afterwards.

Could be loose gas cap or cracked emissions hose. Should be covered under federal emissions warranty if you took it to dealer unless your milage is too high.

Mine went on just when starting truck in morning. Already had the 0442 code and was the large tube in charcoal canister. Can't find any cracked hoses this time and purge value solenoid is new. We'll see what I can find upon tearing it apart this time. 142,000 miles.

damn, I have an 03 and I also had to replace that EVAP line.....must be one of those Dakota things again.

do a visual inspection of your evap hoses(canister,purge sol,and nvld pump,)look for cracks allowing leakage of vapor. they will not be wet. look inside your fuel cap, if the little vent looking items in the center of the cap are rusty it is more than likley the cause. if all these look good than it is more than likly the nvld pump itself. but you should have it checked if you are unsure. paying diag time most times is cheaper than replacing alot of non returnable patrs
