ok i have a 3.9 v6 in my 2001 i've called every company and they all tell me that there exhausts are exactly what i want ( note to self, these people tell you what you want to hear). Anyways so far i seem to want a flowmaster but....... i want it to be not much louder in the cab then it is now i can take a little but not excessive. Flowmaster recommends p/n 52557 this is there 50 series truck and suv muffler i guess form what they say it's supposed to be deeper and quieter in the cab. If i leave the stock piping and just add this muffler i should hopefully not lose alot of torque. my ? is has anyone used this muffler and how does it sound compared to a regular flowmaster 50 series.

thanx

The 50 & 70 series SUV mufflers offer a more mellow exhaust tone and incorporate a "Resonant Tuning Chamber" to keep things a bit quieter in the cab.

I ran a 40 Series (Dual Outlet) on my truck and have switched to a 50-Series SUV (Dual Outlet)...it's MUCH quieter in the cab and sounds better under WOT. (No "Ricey" Fart-Tube Sound like the 40-Series)

although we have different motors, i am willing to bet that you will get similar results as i did. I opted for flowmasters american thunder series cat back system. You and i have much different factory exhaust systems. I have twin cats and a silencer before the muffler. With only the American Thunder cat back I got quite a sound improvement over stock; as well as a bit of performance. I am willing to bet you will get the same, as you have less crap between your exhaust manifolds and muffler than i do. I next installed Edelbrock headers, and ohhh! what sweet music. I also hear that Gibson makes some quality systems although i have no experience with them. Good luck.

I installed the entire Flowmaster Force II cat back on my 5.2. This is their 3" single, side exit cat back that includes the 50 series SUV muffler. I would happily recommend this setup. The manufacturers are going to push their product. I may be able to help, though if your looking at ordering the whole kit. I started out deciding between duals and a single outlet. Went with single because the consensus by the companies, exhaust shops and this board (Thanks Bernd) seems to be that that setup will get you the best gain. Next I decided if I wanted to just take it in and have it custom made or order the kit. I decided to go with a prefabricated kit. It came down to Gibson and Flowmaster. Both sing 3" systems use 16 guage, aluminized steel, mandrel bent pipes (although, you can shell out more money for the Gibson stainless steel). Then my research told me that I would probably be happier with the Flowmaster sound (its supposedly louder), and I was definitely happier with the Flowmaster price. I can tell you that on my v8, its not obnoxious at all. You notice some sound driving with the windows down and radio off. With the windows up and radio on (not blasting, just normal volume) you probably won't notice it. I paid $192 from Jegs high performance after a handling charge and a COD charge. Summit was about the same price, but didn't offer COD. Hope this helps.

I have a 2000 Dakota with a v-8 magnum and am a bit unknowledgeable when it comes to performance parts. I would like to put duel exhausts on and enhance the noise. What is the best way to do this economically with good results.

Just had an experience with Flowmaster that you might want to check prior to ordering. I too was interested in the complete cat-back and was advised by Flowmaster to order part 17278 (03, 4.7L QC). Well it arrived today and the system is all 3" and the stock setup is 2.5". So I called Flowmaster and they recommended taking it to a local muffler shop and having them fabricate a pipe that will mate the Flowmaster 3" pipe to my cat converters 2.5". Not happy with that I will be returning the entire thing.
