Subject: Why Gibson exhaust? IP: Logged
Message: Why are so many of Dakota owners here at DakotaUSA using the Gibson exhaust systems. Am I missing out on some power advantages. Do the Gibson systems sound that much better on the V6 Dakotas.
Present:
2000 QC V6 SLT, Airaid intake, JBA Headers, Dynomax 3" catback, MSD 6A w/ 8.5mm superconductor wires
Future:
180 degree thermostat, Jet stage II chip, Quick D throttle body, Crower 1.6 roller rockers
Any other suggestions would be appreciated

Message: I went with gibson on my V-6 for several reasons:
1. Not too loud, but a nice sound, sorta like a V-8 at idle and low rpms, howls when you punch it, but never sounds like a ricer.
2. I wanted stainless, and gibson had that at a reasonable price.
3. Every aftermarket exhaust seems to make about the same amount of power (single 3"). I know Bernd has dyno tested a few. So I just shopped for sound, quality, and price.
I really don't think any of the quality manufacturer's systems are any better than the others, its just a matter of what kind of sound you want and whether the company offers the features you want.

Message: Hey i just put on my gibson split rear exhaust kit and it is hella tight. What a pain in the ass it was to get off the stock exhaust system. It made it even harder to get it off since my truck is really low to the ground. But it does make a difference in power and the dual is a lot louder. It hums at idle and when i am accelerating it is loud. I love it!

Hey guys what's up? I just put on the gibson split rear exhaust on myy 99 dakota ext. cab v8 and it sounds great. To give it a little more aggresive look and sound I put on some borla intercool exhaust tips. When it sits at idle it sounds a little like it has headers but the sound doesn't compare to the sound of my 68 dart gts. But it sounds good for my every day driver. If anyone else out there with a dakota whose pondering what type of exhaust to put under there ride go with gibson it takes 1-1 1/2 hours to put on with a frinds help and it's the easiest exhaust to put on I did it in an hour and like the sound!
