Message: I have read many of the posts here about towing and have a few questions. Background: I have a 99' 4X$ w/ 3.92 gears and a 5.2L motor. I do not know if I have a HD group or similar suspension. I want to tow my 5,000 lb trailer and plan on installing a class IV receiver and will use an electric brake, weight distributing hitch and anti-sway device.
First do you think it is safe to tow this trailer with this setup it will not be loaded over 6,000 lb. Any special equipment that I should install, please give me a few leads on which brands. I really appreciate your advice.

Message: I don't know about your particular truck, but I
just hauled a SAAB 900 SPG on an aluminum
tandem-axle car trailer with my '98 2WD 3.6
C/C. My truck is basically stock; I have a Class
III Mopar hitch w/factory harness (I installed
myself). I'm gonna guess the tow weight was
around 3500-4000 lbs. I had to let the A/T
downshift (no O/D) to keep up with traffic on
the hills; otherwise, power was adequate.
Brakes are another story - stock brakes are
definitely NOT ENOUGH. I'm going to order an
interia trailer brake controller from Summit
Racing so I can take advantage of the trailer's
electric brakes. Trying to haul down 2+
vehicles' weight and inertia without trailer
brakes is scary (and dangerous).
Do make sure your hitch sets the trailer
tongue level when hooked up; you can get
different drops to facilitate that.
(I drove over 200 miles over hwy/city roads)

Message: 3 weeks ago I traded my 2000 Grand Cherokee for a 4.7/3.55 Quad. The gearing is far to tall however I intend to move to 4.56. I pull a 30 ft trail-lite with a reese antis sway system (cheap One). The Dak pulls it without a problem. FAR better than the GC
