I recently brought a 79 Dakotaan I've noticed that when I start traveling from a turn that the front end starts to wobbles, after the wheel is straighten the wheel it settles down and some times when I'm passing.

A friend of my said it's normal for this truck to do this. What could cause this and should I be concerned?

Also what is the fuction of the O/D botton and how is it suppose work?

The RPM's on the engine seems to increase to high when driving.

Hi, your O/D is what allows your truck to shift into high gear, leave it on all the time. About your steering, haven't a clue:)

Over drive is like a 4th gear pressing the O/D off button Wont allow the truck to go into the 4th gear. This is good when towing or racing were you have the power right there and better cooling because the fan and waterpump are spinning faster.

The steering problem is not normal. It should be smooth just like a car. My only guess is that it could be ball joints or somthing in the suspention that needs to be looked at.

Also im pretty sure this isnt the problem but ive seen a few people come into the dealer ship that have there truck in 4wd on dry pavement. If this is what your doing stop now because this will cause a lot of wear and will most likly break somthing. But that could cause a hopping or vibration in cornering.

Marty.
