Message: When I checked about a month ago it was a little over a cool 1,000!! seemed kind of steep but I have heard it makes a world of difference. I don't know if that was with the limited slip. I wish I would have known what I know now and I would have gotten the 3.92's new.

Message: I bought Yukon brand gears and swapped them myself for ~$200. Don't try this at home unless you are experienced or know someone that is and will help you.

Message: Wayne -
How difficult was it to swap out your rear end gear? Did you notice a "whine" with the "after market" gears?
I have the 355 and would like to try the 392 or even higher (411?).
I would like to keep my "highway" 355 gears so that when I "grow up" I can re install them (I'm already 51, darn it)

Message: Tineka:
Look in your glove-box. The sticker in there will tell you what came installed from the factory.
Calvin:
Quicker acceleration, easier towing, better performance (especially with V6's and automatics).
Jim:
Motive Gear: $250 for the TracLock set and another $250 from a reputable shop to install them...with a 12mo/12K mile warranty.
Beat dam mod I ever did (ok...next to the blower). ;)

Message: From what I am hearing 392 gears are the way to go, too bad I didn't know this when I ordered my dak, I had a no charge option of decideing what gear ratio I wanted, guess what I went with 355. I like them so far, they do good for me, letting me chirp my tires from a 3rd to 4th shift.

Message: Not to change the subject, but I have the stock gears in mine 3.55's and I've put the Mag-Hytec diff cover on which increased the stock oil amount from 2-1/2 quarts to 4-1/2 quarts. This cover has cooling fins, it seals with an O-ring (no gasket of sealant), a dip sitck with a high and low level. The dip stick has a magnet on the end of it, and a drain plug with a magnet in it also. They also sell a really high quality oil that makes your whine go away. They look great too. If anyone is interested they have a phone # of 1-818-786-8325 or their web site at www.mag-hytec.com.
Hope this helps,
Kevin
