It has been repeated many times... USE ONLY THE RECOMMENDED FLUID IN DC AUTO TRANNYS.

All other fluids have been shown to cause problems. This is due to the friction characteristcs of the fluid that cause the bands to chatter and clutches to wear quickly.

Sorta like Honda power steering fluid or John Deere Hydrolic fluid in tractors... there is NOTHING else that can be substituted for these fluids without causing damage.

Amsoil Synthetic ATF is ATF+4 compatable and RedLine Synthetic ATF is ATF+4 compatable. Any tranny fluid you put in a New Dodge Dakota MUST MEET ATF+4 Criteria. It does not mater who makes the fluid just so long as it says on the lable some place that it is ATF+4 compliant. I spoke with amsoil and redline Tech Advisors and the assured me in writeing that their products exceded the requirements for ATF+4. ATF+4 can be used in any application were ATF+3 or latter products were specified.

I have heard of alot of people that have transmission problems with everything factory stock with less then 30,000 miles on them. I guess synthetic fluid killed them too? Most new vechiles today are shipping with semi-synthetic trany fluid from the factory. Some new vechiles are sealed from the factory for life and no fluid can be added by the average user. Chevy and Ford have a couple of these in the works right know. Subaru, Bently/Rolls , BMW and Mercedes all have models here in the U.S. and abraod that use sealed for life transmissions and I can tell you right now that all of them use synthetic fluid in their sealed for life trans. As long as a product meets the specifications spelled out by a manufacturer then that product is fine to use. A manufacture can not require any particular brand of product to be used in order to maintain waranty unless it provides that product free of cost to you for the duration of the warranty. It is a law called the XXXX-Magnuson Act. Congress and the senate both ratified this act a long.. long... time ago to protect consumers. If they did not pass this act then you would have to use Mopar Oil, Washer Fluid, Brake Fluid, Gasoline, ATF, Gear Lube, Grease, Vinyal protectant.............or you would void your warranty. So many dealer scum bags tried this tactic that or representatives actualy did something to protect us from these leech's that sell cars.

This is from Amsoil corprate site!!! This is their universal ATF/ATF+4. It is on their site.
I did not see this same data on Redlines site but the emailed me and told me that their C+ATF excedes ATF+4 guidelines.

Meets or exceeds the following performance specifications:

GM Dexron II, Dexron III
Ford Mercon, Mercon V
Chrysler ATF+, ATF+2, ATF+3, ATF+4
Allison C-3 & C-4
Caterpillar Powershift Transmission TO-2 & TO-3
Voith Commercial Transmissions
GM Strasbourg (European Imports) and Opel

Thanks Sandman, I have 2 1/2 gallons sitting in my garage of the AMSOIL ATF. Just my main concern is and my luck I put the stuff in and somehow I start having problems. I would like to extend the life of my tranny and run the best stuff i can find but I don't want to deal with any hassels that may occur. I currently use AMSOIL Series 2000 Syn Oil and am extremely happy.
Who did you speak to at AMSOIL,(tech person or customer svc) do you know? Maybe I'll give them a call to.
Thanks

I do not work for Amsoil. I am still trying to save up enough to purchase some myself. The kid needs shoes and the freezer needs stocking so the Dodge is still waiting. I have heard from several sources that Amsoil will stand behind their product 100% and will help you out if a dealer trys to blame fluid as source of failure. If you still feel nervious then e-mail Amsoil and save their reply and print it out with full header to use as evidence if you like.
