Subject: Spark Plug Gap? IP: Logged
Message: I am installing the Autolite 3923s in my 2000 3.9L v-6 today. I was wondering what the best gap setting is for these in my truck. Also with the spark plugs and wires should a reset my computer?

Message: Hi, Jacob...
Same engine here. The gap for this engine is .40, a setting you should see under the near the passenger, if you'd like yo double-check.
Others can confirm this, but I don't believe you have to reset the computer changing plugs and wires.
Regards,
David

Message: Thanks, I saw that under the hood, I was just wondering if there was a better gap, considering different spark plugs, and all. Went ahead and put them in with the .040 gap, though.

Message: How to reset the PCM, from Speedtweaks:
1.) Disconnect NEG Battery Terminal
2.) Turn the ignition key to the START position and hold for 15-20 seconds
3.) Release key (OFF) and reconnect the battery

Message: If you are not running any type of forced induction or NOS you can try increaseing gap to increase HP. If you have a realy hot coil you can probably try as large as .055 in very small increments at a time checking plugs for any sign of abnormal or incomplete combustion. If you have increased cylinder presure in anyway or are running NOS you will want to decrease the gap. I belive that the plug you are putting in is already one heat range cooler than stock isn't it? That will solve alot of detonation problems right there if you have increased cylinder preasure.

Message: I have noticed an increase in gas consumption for my Dakota. I was contimplating changing the spark plugs. It has 54k miles and I don't believe they have ever been changed. What would you recommend for a good spark plug, and what else can I look at to optimize gas milage???
