Subject: JBA Headers?
IP: Logged

Message:
Just put my JBA's on today on my 98 dakota v-6. But I ran into a little problem. I have an exhaust leak between the Y-pipe and the flange and I followed the instructions. I also have tried to take the Y-pipe loose and the bolts are just spining. I guess I should have used new bolts. I am thinking either of cutting them off somehow or taking it to a muffler shop to get it fixed. It is not that I can't fix it, but I really don't have the tools-ie.. lift!!! Does anyone have any suggestions and do you think that it would be easier to take it some where and let somebody else fix it?

Richard

Please help!!!

I cut mine off and used new ones. The job was made much easier with air tools.

I can hear it everytime I press the gas and it feels like I am losing power. Believe me I know that it has a leak, but I am about to cut the old bolts off and put some brand new ones on. I keep you posted.

Try this also.....

Put some sealant (silicone I think) in between the flange and headers. That should help stop the air from being forced out from there.
My JBA's leak right now also, but that's actually on the header to head gasket. I put some on, but I didn't spread it out right, I get a little noise every now and then.

All right guys thanks for all the info. I got the old bolts off easy-- with the help of some air tools-- Hookdon4.7. Put new bolts in and it solved the problem but what a pain to get the stock y-pipe to bolt up correctly to the headers. I wonder if JBA makes a Y-pipe for my truck and if so if it is made to fit the headers better. Thanks alot everyone... I hope it will help some it is hard to tell with this weather down here in Houston-- but hopeful it will be somewhat cooler pretty soon!!!!

Hey Richard,
I have a 98 dakota also and was looking into buying some JBA headers. What kind of performance increase have you felt from installing them? Is the ceramic coated ones worth the extra 150 bucks? Thanx.

Richard-
Those bolts were a pain on mine too. Trust me, I did alot of cursing. I haven't seen any Y-pipes for yours or mine. If anyone knows where we can get them...help us out.

Hey Justin, I have only felt a slight difference so far but I have only driven it a few times and it is pretty humid and hot down here it houston. Although it does seem to be louder and it does run alot smoother. I think that after a while it will run even better. I reset the computer also so it might take a while for the computer to learn. But I am impressed so far. My exhaust is also really loud because I have a dynomax super turbo muffler, but when I had it installed I had the shop cut the pipes off right over the rearend so it resenates.
