Message: I put 8000 miles on Pennzoil Synthetic 10w30 with a Bosch filter in my 98 Sport 5.2auto and noticed no difference in performance. I put Mobil1 10w30 in it last weekend with a Mobil1 filter. NOW I notice that it pulls away from a stop at part throttle with more "seat of the pants" power. I mean I notice a BIG difference in power.

Message: Not to throw water on your party, but I can't help to think that this all might be in you mind. Would you have noticed this change had someone changed your oil brand without your knowledge? Sometimes it isnt the product that makes our cars faster, its the mental anticipation of performance that might produce the effect. I've noticed no difference in performance when I changed from regular oil to full synthetic.

Message: Agree with Mr. Sleepy...but I think Mobil One is superior...Mobil One filters are simply made by Champion...run a K & N Filter..mucho bettero..

Message: BMac, Mr. Sleepy is right. There is differences between oils and filters but seat of the pants will never feel it. I don't think you would even be able to see a difference between those two on a dyno. "Mental anticipation" as Mr. Sleepy calls it, caused me to think that a change I made one time made my truck faster. A trip to the dyno proved a 14.4 h.p. LOSS. So much for butt dynos.

Message: Everyone I use Mobile one my self. So do not flame me. Mobile ones Tri-Synthetic is not a better product then the old formula mobile one. It is alot cheaper for them to produce it as a Tri-base synthetic. It is still a good product. I still have 6 cases on my balcony that I will use. Their older formula was much better then the new tri-synthetic. The knew product does not hold viscosity as well as the older product and it does not protect parts from wear as well. It is still 4 times better overall then dino oil.

Message: I've heard that too sandman, and even Mobil1 themselves admitted it wasn't as good as the previous synthetic... read that somewhere on a Neon site, If I remember right, and the guy talked to a rep. from Mobil about it...
I still use their tri-synthetic though...

Message: I'm sure most of you guys hate fords, but i'm a ford man to. When i was reading my ford mag awile back the did a test with 3 diffrent engines. They put regular oil in all 3 and put them on the dyno.
Then they took Tri-Synthetic oil in all 3 and pout them on the dyno. The end resault was a 5 hp gain w/Tri-Synthetic oil. The engines were all stock.

Message: Hey Friend, I don't hate anyone but politicians...
Fords, no prob..just prefer my Dakota. I read the same report. I read another report where they ran Mobil One, (an independent company, nothing to do with Mobil), in a taxi for 25,000 miles..they changed the filter every 5,000 miles, then they drained it out, and tested it. It STILL lubricated better than dinosaur oil..so, there ya go. Thanks for your imput "5.2"
I am a retired Harley mechanic and as soon as Mobil became available in the late 70s, I ran it in my bikes..reduced wear on my moving parts like crazy...I could not believe the difference.

Message: Ford Ran their 197Hr. torture test almosThree times on Neo Synthetic Oil and It was as good as when it went in. Most engine and oil fail under their 197Hr. A few make it to 220 but are nothing but sludge by then; but they ran Neo synthetic oil for 597 hours continously and they stoped the test because they wanted to stop it not because they had to. They tore the engine down and the engine was specked out as new. The head enginer in that department changed his mind about synthetic oils that day. I think that Neo is probably most similar to Amsoil in formulation of their base stock from what I have read. I have tried looking into royal purple but they realy wont tell you much about their products make up or chemistry. They do not have any independant test results that I could find to back up their claims. Does any one know where to get more info on their product? Redline and Amsoil are great about educateing their prospective purchasers about their products. Any wanting to learn more abpout synthetic oils shoul visit their sites. I have about another 1500 miles left to go before I take a sample of my oil and have it analyzed. It has Penzoil 10w30 synthetic in it right now. I can say that it has 5500 miles on it right now and is only as dark as the color of clover honey. The viscosity seems to be holding up just fine.

Message: Manuel, I moved the IAT to the Inlet tube on the K&N GEN II. I lost 14.4 H.P. Of course, I moved it back and gained the H.P. back. Experimenting with the IAT and resistors on an F-bodies and a Grand Prix showed consistent losses so I don't mess with that part no more.

Message: Mobil 1 is good but pennzoil is good also. there is one very big problem with pennzoil and that is that they merged with quaker state. If you remember bounty soap had more lubrications then quaker state a few years ago. But you know what if a bottle of oil has that state approval on it everyone will still by it no matter what kind.

My .02 is that it is either LI BlackDak, SpongeBob, or EyeTrip,
(either could also be operating under the alias btt or ttt, currently attacking the Performance Board)
but i've seen all of the above acting up here.
Seems like the above guys like to pick on Bernd and Speedtweeks, and maybe others.

Message: Oil formulas are forever changing at least year to year as the manufacturers require upgrades to match there updated engines, not to mention the rest of the parts using oil of one kind or another.
This post being 5 years old pertains to oils that will not work in todays engines. The exception may be the full syn oils.
If you need information on oil, try finding the REAL FACTS on the net. If your still confused bring your new to you learned information to This board under a NEW POST.
