Subject: Cat converters on 4.7? IP: Logged
Message: I recently purchased an 01' Dakota 4x4 SLT with the 4.7. I'm in so. cal, and I've heard the Cal Daks come with 3 or 4 cat converters, this must be killing my hp. Does anyone have any suggestions on dealing with these catastrophic converters?

Message: I have a 2001 4x2 4.7 w/out limited slip. Is there some way to have limited slip installed? What are my options? Thanks

Catalytic convertors have come a long way from the original "Catastrophic Convertors" (pelletized versions). They're high-flow cats from the factory and it really doesn't make too much of a difference in performance if you change them out to a "High Flow" Aftermarket cat. Catco and Random Technology are the same catalytic convertors...and Catco supplies OEM's as well.
Taking them off is even worse since you
(a) take away the clean air and pollute it for my children
(b) risk tripping a check engine light (MIL) all the time
(c) wake up the neighbors at night (hehehe...i'm guilty of that one)

Message: I agree with bernd. leave them a lone. as far as the tcganey wanting limited slip go back to the dealer and see what the would charge or check out reider racing and ask them about an auburn limited slip. It is a little better than stock because it is a cone style limited slip
