Demon you are right about the speed rating on my tires,I called a dealer and they told me that same thing.
Hey racenut I'm a Ranger fan having a 94 and 97 Ranger, my 97 4.0 5spd stick with no air or power stuff would do 110 and didn't stop running at 110.I traded it in for my 4.7 cc for more room for the grand baby and more power for grandpa.Man does it have power,love it.

There is someone out there who KNOWS
exactly what's needed to remove or modify the
speed limiter. Probably works for Chrysler
Corp. and is part of the design team that
incorporated the limiter in the first place. That
person could supplement his/her income by
doing what we all want done buy would no
doubt loose their job at the least. The reasons
for the limiter are, for the most part,
speculation and rumor. The dealers don't
know and don't want to know about this. The
people that do chips and flashes may be able
to remove the limiter or raise the limit speed
but to my knowledge it only happens in high
gear. I was going to spring for the mod that
raises the limit from 98 to about 115 but I
would have had to take the performance
portion of the package at the same time
(same price either way). The truck runs good
so I didn't to have to go to premium gas and
worry about problems with smog laws in
California for a few extra MPH and a little more
power .
Sure hope the person I mentioned in the
beginning of this post decides to earn some
extra money.

Your right the dealers know how to raise the speed limiter,You know some POLICE and FIRE DEPT use Dakota's everyday with no speed limiter,Now if Chrysler has a program for there PCM don't you think they can mod ours.Our local Department take there trucks to the same Dealer who works on my truck and they have had the spark knock FLASH,Both are 4.7L 2002!

tell me about it, the local police cruise the 02
durango's...something is fishy, I just wish the
dealerships would remove it, I live in Cali, and
so far have had no luck, and from what I hear,
the 98mph speed limiter is the worst one to
have.
