I was looking at buying a 2003 Dakota with the 3.9 and when
I took it for a test drive it didn't have the take off I was
hoping for. I was wondering what people are saying about
performance chips. was wondering if they really do improve
performance significantly and if the economy setting really
saves fuel. also some good manufacturers of chips.

Yeah, me too. I'm looking for something to override the computer a little. All the mild modifications seem to have worked for a little while but I think the PCM has figured me out and had "re-set" everything to the stock settings.

I don't know. I think I need a chip. What kind is good for fuel economy on a V6 1999 4x2?

Put a potato chip in the truck, does about the same thing as a performance chip.

Don't you fools get it, you gain nothing!!!!

That's not true. Try putting in a Mopar Performance computer or a chip and then continue to use regular 87 octane pump gas. Basically the reprogramming sets up the engine for 92+ octane.

I had a performance 91 chip in my 02 quad cab with headers,
exhaust , 4.10 gears, cold air intake, it didn't do s#@t . it only cost
me a butt load of money in 91+ octane fuel. took it out after a year
started putting 87 in again haven't noticed any power loss what so
ever. chips are a joke. if you want power and performance do cams,
headers, exhaust, intake, TB, gears, that will get you the get up and
go your looking for.
