Subject: cheapo exhaust? IP: Logged
Message: okay, so i have discovered the exhaust on my '91
318 dakota is clogged and is severely affecting
the performance and drivability of the truck. as
a temporary and very cheap fix, do you think
cutting out the cat, and slipping a bendable pipe
in place, and clamping it down would work good
enough. i figured a bendable pipe would be much
easier to put on, and since it is temporary would
work out well. what are your thoughts?

Message: dont rig it...you will kick yourself later, first off if you cut out the cat where do you plan on putting the O2?? if you get a real peice of pipe to fill the gap and drill a hole in the pipe. then take a nut with the same threads as the o2 and weld it over the hole so you can put the o2 back in. make sure all pipe joints are welded or they will leak... have fun and try not to rig it

Message: i wasnt really planning on leaving it that way. i
just thought this would be a quick fix so i can
get my truck back on the road. its driven very
rarely anyway.

Message: i know what your sayin with savin cash but this will literally cost you like 15 bucks then its done and you wont ever have to mess with it again. and it even takes about the same amount of time. all you will need is 2 pipe clampa a nut and a piece of pipe. same thing as ur idea but allows you to put the o2 back because without it.... it will run worse than it did with the clogged cat considering it tells the computer how rich it is.

Message: i cant be certain cause i have a 3.9 but im almost positive that you were misinformed....partially anyway. there will be an O2 before the cat but after the y pipe and another one right in the cat but at the rear of it. just lay under their and look there should be one located on top of the cat near the rear of the cat.... hope im helpin you out.

Message: well after looking into it more, from what i have
been told, that is not an 02 sensor going into
the cat, it is an air pipe. what it is used for,
im not sure. if i need it, im not sure. so i now
need to know if that is something i need. i would
hope that its not important and i can cut out the
cat, and disconnect the air pipe and leave it
there. if i do need the air pipe ill just drill a
hole in the strait pipe and put it in, but i
would like to keep this as simple as possible and
not have to do that

Message: yes their is an air pipe but their should also be an o2...it would be on the top of the cat near the rear end of it.... i dont know why yours wouldnt have one cause im pretty sure it should.

Message: i looked all around and did not see and 02 sensor
in the cat. i didnt think they put them in the
cat, that doesnt make much sense to me. iv always
been told on older vehicles like mine, there was
one before. and newer stuff has one before and
after

Message: yeah thats why i said i could be wrong...lol. because in mine which is a 97 there is one before and after....you very well may not have one but just whatever you do avoid the flex pipe at all costs that stuff sucks.

Message: O2 upstream sensor could be in the Y-pipe, not the inlet of the catcon.
