Subject: 3.55 Gear Swap IP: Logged
Message: Found out my truck does NOT have the 3.73 gears like I had thought, instead it's got the 3.55. While I consider these adequate, I would like to know how much more "neck snap" I would get switching to 3.73?
Gas milage decreases how much? (Currently 18mpg)
Lastly, how hard is it to do? Would I be better off checking out the boneyards for a wrecked Dakota with the 3.73 rear end? Where can parts be gotten to do this swap?
3.9L V6

Message: "neck snap", not much difference, but if you really want good off-the-line acceleration why don't you just get 3.92's or 4.10's? Gas mileage wouldn't be affected much at all. You could easily change tire sizes to get the equivalent to a 3.73 gear ratio, if you need tires?

Message: You will see very little change going to 3:73`s from 3:55`s,My opinion the v6 should have at least the 3:92`s,like quad said get some 4:10`s if you want some noticeable snap, anyway who makes 3:73`s thats a odd gearset? My next mod for my 4.7 will be 4:10`s
