so lately iv been thinking about putting a little
money into to my truck and making a project out
of it. it doesnt get driven much but once i start
fixing it up i will drive it alot more. anyway my
truck is a 1991 with a 318 and 4 wheel drive. for
about the last 8 years the truck has been driven
very little and was not very well taken care of.
(there are only about 64k miles on it so that
gives you an idea of how much its been driven in
17 years.) what are some basic things i should
get checked out, and possibly replace? and while
im working at getting everything cleaned up and
the truck running great i wanted to get some
performance mods for the engine to get some more
power from it. i dont want to go really crazy as
im on a budget and im only 16. so what can i do
to get this thing running good again and get some
more power out?

The first thing to do is replace all the fluids. And I do mean ALL of them - coolant, trans, diffs.
Second, give it a good tune up, with new secondary ignition system and coil.
Put fresh grease everywhere you find a grease fitting.
Replace the tires. The tread may look good. But after a few years the rubber gets hard and you lose traction. It also starts to break down, and your chance of a blow out or tread seperation is really high.
As for the engine, start with the simple things first - those that are proven to increase power and efficiency. Better intake and exhaust to start with. Don't waste money on an ignition upgrade.

i have a 1992 dodge 150 with a 318. i am looking for some more hourse power with out breaking th bank. any ideas. also, i am thinking about getting a crate engine that is bored out and then go from there. do you think that this is a good idea or should i just stick with the engine that i already have?

Rebuild the engine you have with a stroker kit. you can get 390cu.in out of that block. you might be able to find a good deal on a complete stroker 5.2 ready to drop in.

1.7 roller rockers, throttle body 52 or53 mm, headers, accel
300+ or msd ignition system auto lite 2932's 180 thermostat
