Subject: 440 Headers IP: Logged
Message: So im building a 440 from the block up right now and i plan on dropping it into my 01 dodge dakota sport this spring or summer
My issue right now is headers, I would prefer a pair of long tubes since this motor is being built for performance, but I am not sure if they will fit in the engine bay.
Can anyone suggest a solution or even a pair of headers to look for? Or will they fit without any problem? I need to make sure they will clear the frame before i attempt to do the swap.

Message: I've had a couple of 440s in vehicle for which they were intended. Even they did not take the same headers. It's only a guess but I would say, no.
If you are a fairly good welder and fabricator it's not too difficult to make your own. You can even start out with headers that just come close to fitting and then modify them. The right side usually fits the easiest. The left side will almost certainly have problems around the steering and vacuum unit.
I don't remember who but someone does make engine mounts for that project. You would think that they would know or have suggestions on headers
Good luck in your project.

Message: Thanks, ya i have the website bookmarked for the mount kit, and i figured i would most likely end up having to cut the front 2 pipes on the driver side and weld them back in, just wasnt sure if there was an easier way. I am porting the heads right now and was gonna buy the headers now and use the gaskets for porting, so headers are top priority right now
Long tubes and fabrication it is i suppose. I plan on buying them in a week or two, so if anyone has any suggestions please speak up before i buy them.

Message: These are not full tube but they will fit. I just ordered a set and the welds are clean/ground smooth:

Message: I've heard that back in the days, you could get a 440 in the Ramcharger. What was the performance of that engine? I guess it was back in the 80's or late 70's
