Message: Have the 2nd Gen 3.9L Magnum engine. Its a 2000 with only 45000 grand on it, and was wondering if this is worth my time/money to mod. Will it run pretty quick? Can it keep up with the 4.7/5.2/5.9? Bone stock right now, thinks like CAI, exhaust, TB, Superchips are all ideas right now if its even worth it. Hit me with some feedback please

only you can answer that one. yes, it can be made faster than a 4.7/5.2 or 5.9. it just depends how much you want to spend to become the next "speed racer".

Message: Daddio is right on this one. Only you can decide if it's worth it. The 3.9 can be made as potent as a 5.2 with the right mods for not a lot of money, say around $500.
Solid places to start would be Superchips (or SCT tuner if youre serious) (~$300), Viper Rockers (~$100), 318 Throttle Body and cable (~$50), and maybe a K&N Fipk (~$250). Dont forget a solid tune-up, synthetic fluids, Autolite 3923 plugs. After all this is done, a free flowing cat-back would net some gains as well.
You would be looking at about 225ish HP without the weight or rotating mass of a V8. Of course, you also miss the smoothness of a V8. According to some on this site, the 3.9 is a great motor to supercharge. You'll have to pay some serious upfront costs, but you have some serious power as well, without nickel and diming your way up.
If you have a 2WD, gears may be an excellent place to start. Works well on 4WD too, but just costs twice as much.
Stock rims and tires are excessively heavy. You can cut down on rotating mass by putting on lightweight rims and low profile tires. This will aide in acceleration, handling and style (if you like that look anyways).
All in all, you have to ask yourself how much you want to spend and how fast you want to go.

Message: While those mods will get the HP up; won't that still be a good bit lower on torque than a v8 ? And it is the torque that will be needed to match the performance of a v8 truck. I'd think it would take forced induction to really match the v8s, and that could get pricy compared to trading for a v8 truck. Like they are saying, it really depends on how much you want to spend.

Message: The v6 gets the same mileage compared to the v8. So the v8 won't get better mileage overall, just better mileage for the power and torque available.

Message: Fury,I have both,a v-6 and a v-8,i just added headers, a venom chip and a complete exhaust, all highflow,an airaid air filter, and had both heads re-done and a new tranny, all done to my V-6 and it still doesnt even remotely compare to my V-8, not even close,so my advise as someone who has both is just slap on a quality air cleaner and when you need a new exhaust system down the road maybe go a little larger pipe dia,and thats about all you should invest in a v-6.The v-6 is a bit of a let down.
