Subject: healthy oil pressure range IP: Logged
Message: Can anyone tell me what the oil pressure gauge on the dash should read at idle and 2500 RPM? Im using 5w-30 oil and at idle my dash gauge reads slightly above the low line on the "bracket". When driving, between 2000-3000 RPM, it is slightly above the middle 40 mark, probably 50 to 60 psi. The reason I ask is my needle started sticking when I start the engine until I gave it gas and it would jump up. I replaced the sending unit and it takes a second at start for the needle to jump, but no longer takes me giving the engine gas. Im trying to figure out if my pressure is lower that it should be due to another issue such as a clogged pump screen of dying pump.

Message: what your saying sounds normal when in doubt, you can always check it with a mechanical gage. when cold/ or warm off idle, mine('00 3.9), usually runs halfway between the mid(40) mark and the next higher mark. i figure somewhere around 70psi. when warm @ idle its just under the 40 mark.
the FSM states minimum 6psi, engine warm and 30-80 psi @ idle.
