i have a 2004 dakota sxt. im thinkin of swaping out the stock gears for somthing with a little get up an go. i do put a trailer in the summer time. i just want some input on what i should get.

If you have stock size tires and plan on keeping them I would go with a set of 3.92 gears. What is you ratio now?

check for a sticker on the inside of the glovebox lid and it will tell you what gears you have. probably 3.21:1 or 3.55:1. depending how much time your truck spends on the highway you could go 3.92:1 or 4.10:1. 4.10 will give more power to the wheels but could result in significantly lower mpg depending on speeds driven.

daddio is right except for the 4.7 alot of guys report better milage when go to 4.10 or even 4.56 as the engine is happier in the higher rpm range. However I would guess your probably sportin a V6 in the sxt.

it has 3:92's in it now. i hardly ever do over 70 damn NJ state toopers suck in this state

don't waste your time with 4.10 if you already have 3.92's.
4.56 will help power but you will be taching in the mid 2000's rpm range on the highway.
The difference between the 3.92 and the 4.10 isn't enough to really notice much, esp. for the $$ spent.
