Subject: superchips ???? IP: Logged
Message: A few questions about superchips.
My pickup is a 2001 CC Dakota,4.7,auto,4X4,81000 miles,3.56 gearing
I tow a camper aprox 4500 lbs,the truck handeles it pretty well but I would like the shifting to be a little stiffer, and a few more HP definatly wouldnt hurt,do you guys think the superchips would be for me?
I have thought about lowering my gearing, but realy dont tow it often enough to do that, and I would still have the soft shifting to deal with.
I dont plan on doing any other mods in the near future, possibly exhaust someday but not untill the stock one starts getting thin.
I have also thought about the HO cams but dont know if they help lowend??or are mostly upperend??
If i decide to try a superchips or possibly HO cams where are the best deals??

Message: HO cams definitely help some, low end included.
Superchips will give you a few more ponies- dyno proven, autos like yours will see slightly more gains than a manual tranny- again, dyno proven.
the auto puts less overall to the rear wheels though.
The muffler change is basically paying for a sound change.
I don't know what it will do to your shifts, cause I have a manual.
My 2001 4.7, QC, has over 136,000miles, and still is excellent!
01 SLT QC, two tone paint,
OEM fender flares
Cab high Leer cap w/ double slider window,
Infinity sound,
Tire and handling pack,
Trailer towing pack,
4.7 manual,3.92LSD rear, traction leafs
HO cams,
HO intake,
Ported the stock 68mm TB,
Homebrew 'true' CAI, w/ K&N
No belt driven clutch or cooling fan
No third cat.
SuperChips Tuner
Max dyno, NO short belts, etc.
227 RW HP
300 RW TQ

Message: Get the Superchips tuner! You and I have virtually the same model; only difference is mine is 4x2. It firmed up my shifts big time. Made a HUGE improvement.
I wish I could remember where I bought mine from (purchased online 2 years ago), but after extensive web searching I paid only $375 and that included shipping.

Message: Thanks guys
1 more question, what about gas milage?improve a little?same?worse? if it goes up one or two mpg that would be great since I believe you need to run premiem, anouther 1 or 2 mpg would balence out fuel cost pretty well.

Message: I run a SuperChips and HO cams on my 01 Durango 4x4, night and day difference for normal driving and towing. I couldn't run the 93 High Performance setting during normal driving (pinged) but the 93 tow setting was OK and good for towing.
I got the SuperChips of Ebay for $275 and the HO cams for $110+- each from oemdodgeparts.com. Be aware that Superchips won't warranty the unit if you don't buy it from an authorized store, you have to pay full retail if you want the warranty.
