Subject: 4.7 Throttle Body Options

I know that the 00 daks came with the 65mm TB and that the 01-02 68mm TB is a direct bolt on replacement. My question is, would an 01-03 durango or an 01-04 grand cherokee with the 4.7 also work, or are there sensor, wiring, etc. that would make them incompatable???

Thanks.

Same engine. Same throttle body.

Why are you asking about an '02 cutoff for the Dak, but later years for Durango and Jeep ? There was a sensor change at some point, because I got a great deal on a ported 68mm for my '00 since it wouldn't work with the other guy's newer 4.7 when he traded his truck. I'd guess they probably all changed around the same time - but not sure of the year.

The reason for the later years on the other trucks versus the 02 for the dak is that is how they are listed in parts catalogs for the throttle body. They list the daks with 00, then 01-02, then 03, and then 04-07. I was considering a stock 68mm instead of the fastman and was seeing better deals on the cherokee and durango for some unknown reason.

Perhaps they didn't change those until later then; maybe to use up the older style ? Or, maybe those got the newer style from the start ? It would be tough to really know what's going on there without a visual inspection; although my best guess would be the latter if the parts #s differ. Are you seeing better enough deals that it would be worth the hassle and expense of restocking fees if they might charge you to return the wrong part you guessed at ? If '01 & '02 Dakota are same part #, they would work for sure.

00dak,

You're right about the increase to 68mm TB in 01. I always heard that it was to counter loss b/c of the three cats standard in 01. But that'what I heard on here, cause it seems some 02's didn't have 3 cats.

I took the stock 68mm on my 01 and dremmeled it out and took off the Torque Step (hump) at the bottom. Did it before any dynos on my truck, so don't know objectively if it helps, makes sense it does though.

If you get a 68 to fit your engine, then port it before you stick it on.

Good luck.

Have you considered a bone yard one ? This isn't something that will realy wear out, like a carb. You could get the right year, clean it up, port it if you like, and swap over you TPS,IAC.

That's the problem. Hard to find one off a dakota and was more expensive - supply and demand I guess. Then I noticed more durango and cherokee ones at less more - supply and demand again.

Been debating on the way to go, stock 68mm, port it myself, or the fastman. Plan is 4.10 gears, superchips, and afe intake. Still undecided on the tb (obviously) and the exhaust. Know my Y pipe is bad based on descriptions on the site, but not sure if catback is worth it. Need to be able to tow a couple times a month, but also want to keep the MPG's as high as possible.
