Message: Appart having 8 cylinders,
I don't think the old 5.9 (360) engine design
has any parts in common with the newer 5.7 & 6.1
engines designs.

Message: 6.1 heads on a 5.9 block will not give you a 6.1L engine. To get 6.1L engine, you must also include, at minimum, a 6.1L:
block,
all associated internal and external mechanical pieces,
fuel delivery system,
engine computer.

Message: the 5.7/6.1 Hemi is a completly differant animal from the 5.9 Magnum engine. I don't think anything interchanges; certainly not the top end.
If you want a smog legal engine, but the R/T and put a built stroker in it. More power than the 6.1, cheaper than a 6.1, less work, a sleeper, and smog legal in most places.
If you really want power, a blower and a nitrous system will put you over the top.
