Subject: Viper Rocker Arms? IP: Logged
Message: I have heard that the factory rocker arms for the Dodge Viper are a non roller at a 1.7 ratio and would directly bolt up to a Magnum engine replacing our 1.6 ratio. Has anyone heard this or know if it works? Has anyone done this themselves? Any help is appreciated.

Message: there are some post in here somewhere that the posters stated that the viper 1.7's do fit and work with no problems at all with a stock cam. now if you're running a higher than stock lift you may have problems.

Message: Yes, I did that swap and reported on it not long ago.
There are two types of arms available, early and late. Use the early model. Cost is about $75.
The fulcrums and bolts are differant. If you plan on replacing them, use the 5.2/5.9 parts.
It really is a simple bolt on replacement. Remove the old one and replace it with the new one. Getting the valve covers off took longer than replacing the arms.
Does it work? Definatly. The Butt-O-Meter definatly feels a differance. Also gives more torque for towing. Mileage is about the same, maybe slightly better when towing. Around town mileage didn't change - it still sucks.

Is that 75$ for the whole set of 16 or would that be 20? Are they available individually, so that we aren't paying for more than we need?
What years are considered early models?
Thanks.

Message: Get rocker arms to fit a 92-02 viper.
You buy them individually, so you can just get 16. If you shop around, you find them for about $5.50 or $6 each.

Message: Do a google search for "dodge dakota parts" and you'll have quite a few choices. Or, you can just stop by your local Dodge dealer.
You'll need 16.

Message: Would you get a better increase using Viper 1.7 rocker arms or 1.7 roller rockers? And how much of a difference, is it noticable? How about a price difference, how much is it? Would it justify the more expensive option?

Message: Roller tip arms are important for high valve lifts, like greater than .5". Full rollers also help reduce friction, particularly at high rpm's.
But in a truck motor with a stock cam that never/rarely see's more than 5K rpm's, you'll never notice any differance. Power and longevity will be the same as using the viper parts.
Full roller rocker arms will cost you in the neighborhood of $350-400. Not enough bang for the buck for me.
