I want to upgrade to a better intake manifold than stock on my 2001 5.9 R/T but I want to keep it fuel injected. Who sells a direct replacment intake manifold for my truck that will actully net hp/tq gains? Thanks for your replies as I am new to trucks. (also mustang guy) I know I know...

Mopar Performance is your only option (as far as I know) for retaining MPI. The M1. Edelbrock sells intakes that are carburetor applications only.

It's entirely possible someone else is finally doing something with these engines, I just haven't seen it yet. Since Indy has been so big into Mopars, I figured for sure they'd have something, but no dice. There may be an M1 clone out there, but quality may suck. Good luck.

Hughes Engines sells a modified Edlebrock Air Gap for the MPFI engine. It's kind of pricey, but from my buddies results, well worth it. (hughesengines.com)

I just checked with Hughes, no core charge. To modify a Edl. Magnum Air Gap Manifold the customer supplies is $457, To purchase one already modified, is $722. It includes all the adapters needed and installation of the Injector bungs.

The best intake for your truck is the Mopar M-1. Don't be bamboozled buy Hughes and his big waste of money F-1. Mopar is the only way to go.

No worries. Momentary eye candy, sanity returned quickly. I have yet to but anything from them. I do think the RPM AirGap is the perfect fill-in in carbureted apps between the dual plane M1 and the single-plane M1. On the MPI Air Gap, it is, after all, a dual plane intake, and it has great flow to 6,000rpm, but not so great as to justify the HUGhEs price.

Hughes even states if your going for all out HP, the M1 is your choice. I do think think the FI (not F-1) Air Gap is too expensive, but the person who started this thread asked for options with hp/tq gains. If your racing, I would go with the M1. If your not hitting 5500-6000, and you have $750 lying around, go with the FI. As an M1 owner, you will lose some low end and 2-3 MPG with the M1, but you will be happy with the upper end boost, even better with a 52mm throttle body. You don't make as much absolute HP the FI, but you make more than stock and "IF" what they report is true, you will get better MPG with the FI. (Hmmm FI backwords is IF). I forgot to mention, if your 5.9 has and EGR, you'll have to bypass it to use the FI, illegal, but it can be done. Last I checked you can still get an M1 for EGR vehicles.

The original poster stated they had a 2001 5.9, right? EGR went away with the 1996 model, so the egr bypass issue depends on model year. That being said, while the Air Gap may offer some mid-range improvements by offering great cylinder filling capability, a good 4-hole spacer on an M1 would close the gap (no pun intended) to a point that it wouldn't matter, except you'd still have at least $350 bucks left over.

I appreciate you squaring me away on the EGR applications. For the MPI M1 Manifolds, last I checked (a year or two ago, I'm overseas right now) they only had two barrel MPI single planes. You could not even bolt on a 4 barrel spacer on mine. What PN M1 do you use? I bought my M1 at least 5 years ago or so cost $600, it still lists for $699. Where did you get yours and are you running FI or a carb? I've got 262,000 miles on my '92 5.2 and am looking at a rebuild when I get back to the states. I'd like to get my MPG back, and if I continue to put the miles on my truck when I get back, it might pay for itself. I'd appreciate any info you can provide, thanks.

MOP5007380 is the closest thing to the one I have. Mine was a crate engine take off. Don't have the part number handy, but it essentially became what you see in the ....7380. Kere's the kicker, snagged it for something like $100, or $125...something like that. In the pic, you can see the un-drilled injector points and the 4V plenum for either carburetor or 4V-style throttle body. Using an adapter, a 2V style throttle body can also be used. I have a carb, but it can be kicked over to MPI. Oh, and check out that price. $299. I guess there could be some snag about availability, but they have it on the page, so it must still be available. It looks to be the only one for racing when using the Magnum heads. They have others for the different W-series heads. They're pretty good about keeping things current in their online catalog. $600 bucks! SHeeesh! The only one I see approaching $600 is a direct replacement with all associated hardware included.

Yeah, $600 was alot, but at the time it was the only MPI manifold I could buy. I got tired of changing the Pan Gasket on the stock intake, even with the thick plate hughes sold/sells, it would only last 50,000. I did get a Stage II throttle body with the manifold, so it wasn't too bad. The guy I bought it from wrecked his truck before he received the Manifold.
