Tyler, Ken,

Unless it's a restrictive intake, the stocker will run as well.

I've yet to see an independent, like a customer, dyno before and after an aftermarket CAI install, and show a gain.

I before and aftered my Superchips tuner install, on all the setting with different octanes after I bought mine.

That was the only change, only looking at the changes the SC tuner made. I even used the same dyno, and two nearly identical ambint condition days.

Long story short, either leave the stock intake, or buy one for big $$, if you lift your hood and want to See ($$) the difference. Or make one for WAYYY less, and get about the same, if any gains.

My 4.7 has had a homebrew for over 5 years now, I'm happy with it.

I wasn't happy with my home brew - just extra noise, without any extra power. Then K&N released their version, seems to be the only one to be able to dyno measurable gains for the 4.7 (same engine as Todd above)- and that was 9hp at just the higher rpms. Took them a while to develope theirs and they quantify the gain for different motors - unlike all the other companies, which typically claim "up to" a certain number, without specifying which motor saw those results or where. So Tyler, as far as my experince goes, the answer to Ken S's question would be there isn't one, since in his question he disqualified consideration of the K&N. Unlike Todd, I definitely wouldn't expect a home brew to yield similar results. But the 3.9 motor results could be different; you might try the question on the v6 forum; and/or check the results on K&N's web site. Just remember when someone says "up to", they aren't making any kind of real claim for your specific engine.
