I want to change out the factory throttle body but I am not sure what to go with? I am looking at the 70mm and the 72mm. Any help would be great.

The stock 68mm TB will already pass more air than your engine will ever need.

It all depends on what year your truck is. Not all years have the same size tb. I don't even own a 4.7 and know that.

The 2000 4.7 had a 65mm TB, 68mm 2001-current. There is a cheap/free mod to the stock TB. Simply remove the TB, secure the TB blade to the open position, and sand or Dremel the "torque step" in the throat to a consistant diameter for better airflow. Some call this the "true 68mm mod".

Unfortuanately you can't do that to the early tb's. Also cobbed up tb's may flow less than the original. I've seen some pretty poor workmanship.

Btw, you certainly don't want to hold the throttle plate in the open position while doing the work.

"Can't do that to the early tb's" ? What do you mean ? I have one of the early 68mm TB's replacing the original 65mm on my '00; nicely ported by the guy I got it from. No torque step, nice and smooth. Got a good deal on it as he found he couldn't use it due to a design change when he bought a newer 4.7.

You can't port a 65mm tb to 68mm by hand and you certainly can't do it the way 01Motorsport said.

I should have clarified that. Remove the 65mm TB, install a 68mm in its place, then mod or don't mod the 68mm torque step. The degree of difficulty of this mod compares to changing a set of spark plugs.

Ah, I thought it was obvious removing the torque step would only open it up to the claimed diameter...

I think a hell of a lot more people change their plugs than port tb's. This a not uncommon home hack job. I'm sure this guy did a much better job of changing his spark plugs.

You can screw up a 4.7 tb just as easily.

Good to see you were able to spot the obvious though.

Good thing it wasn't a picture of a v6 tb. That would have made a huge difference.

I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 65mm tb with the torque step it reduces it to about 62 mm. I picked a brand new 68mm tb off ebay for a good price. The 68mm with torque step is about 65mm. With the torque step removed it will yield the true 68mm. Going from a 62mm to 68mm tb this yields approximately a 60 percent increase in flow.

I replaced the stock air box with a K&N cold air intake, replaced the stock muffler with a magnaflow muffler, using the super chips 87 octane tow program and replace the plugs with Halos recommended by Larry on the V6 board. I recently completed a 1000 mile round trip between the Seattle area to Boise Idaho and average 22 mpg round trip. I drove the speed limit or slightly below, the speed limits are as follows; Washington 70, Oregon 65, Idaho 75. Just east of Pendleton Oregon you climb cabbage hill which results in a 3000 ft climb in elevation. Anyone who lives in this area knows that the trip between Seattle and Boise is filles with mountains and hills and it will take its to toal on gas mileage. On another trip to Olympia Wa. running at about 60 to 65 mph I achieve 24 mpg; excellent gas mileage for a v8 powered SUV.
This 4.7 is putting out close to 230 rwhp as configured. I like the 4.7 engine alot, I'm considering a Dak with the 4.7.
