Subject: I need rear sway bar help! Graph?

Alright, I bought a rear sway bar for my 2wd 2002 dak, now the problem is, I don't know how it goes on. I have the "dog bone" frame links and I can get the axle clamps, but which way does it go on? If anyone has a pic of their rear sway bar that would be very helpful. Also, do I need a special type of bolt for the "dog bone" frame links?

Any help is appreciated.

I can't get to my photos right now... I can dig up some photos when I get home Wednesday if you still need them.

The bolts you are asking about: to mount the dogbone to the frame? Do you have the small triangular bracket for the tops? These have two holes and mount onto the frame (holes are already there). I used two 1 or 1.5" bolts 3/8" thick on each side, lock washers, etc when i put my hand-me-down sway bar onto my son's 1999 RC.

The factory setup is a plate with two bolts welded on that lays in from the top. This eliminates the need to wrench the top and bottom while tightening. It's no problem getting a wrench in the frame to hold the bolt head.

What's your left foot doing?

Dammit! I knew I needed those brackets for where it mounts to the frame. I guess I'll have to go down to the stealership to get those. I was just there yesterday to try and get the factory mounting bolts, but they wanted $37.00! I said funk that man, I can just go down to a bolt shop and pick up ones that are stronger, and for less money. Luckily, even though my truck came without a sway bar, it did come with the mounting brackets welded to the axle.

Thanks alot for the help Modain! I would have completely forgotten about those triangular brackets. Take her easy dude.

If there's a junkyard nearby, take a 15mm socket, 6" extension and ratchet, and get them off a wrecked one. Don't forget the nutplate.

Right on Josh. I'll go check around and see if there are daks with a sway bar at the junk yard. Thanks for the tool list as well.

Sorry, just couldn't control myself. It is a great little truck. Still handles better than than my new Tundra. I've got to get a rear sway bar for it too. Fortunately TRD has one when ever I have money.

No worries dude. If I ever get some extra cash, you better have that truck, or I might have to steal from whomever you sell it to. :)

How you liking that new Tundra?

The new Tundra is a pretty awsome truck. Its so close to a 2500 it doesn't matter. It won't handle with the AWD Dakota, but nothing but a sports car can do that anyway. Tons of power, tows like a dream up to 10500. It has to be under rated for payload and towing. Lots more room in the Regular cab than the Dakota too, of course it weighs 1100 lbs more. I'm very pleased with it.

Word. Maybe I'll get one and make it my daily driver after I turbo my current Dak. I'd really like one of the blue or black ones with a RC 5.7L 2WD.

It gets 17.2mpg in my normal everyday driving. Drops to about 11 towing. They do a quarter in about 14 stock, no mods. The guys are reporting about 20mpg on highway driving with 4x4 quad cabs. Pretty fancy truck, tons of power. Mine's a RCSB 4x4 5.7, very quick.
