Subject: superchips problem

Message:
I am trying to sell my superchips to a friend. I installed the program to let him check it out. He likes it and wants to buy it. Here is the problem. He just got it back from the dealer, a chevy dealer, after he blew the motor. It has been out for about 3 weeks. We were cruising about town and stopped for a bit, and when he went to start it back up nothing. The starter cranks but it won't start. I do not even hear the fuel pump prime up. He towed it to his mechanic and he says there is no spark or any other signal to start it up. It has to go back to the dealer. So I go to take out the program and the unit says ignition on not detected. we did the dtc's and it said that there were none, ignition has to be on for that. I am to the point where I am hoping that they fix the truck w/o reprograming the computer, but that is unlikely even though it is a chevy stealership. When the key is turned to the run position the gauges do not move and there is something clicking directly under the fuse and relay panel under the hood. It is an 01 4.7 dak no 4x4 auto. Any help will be appreciated.

Doesn't sound like a superchips problem. If it is a pcm failure then you are SOL on the SC program. Tell the dealer that it has a SC program and not to mess with the pcm without permission.

There should be a fuse for the instrument cluster but I think it should run without that. Several relays are activated when you turn the key so the clicking you hear is normal. Locate and check the auto shutdown relay if you have one.

You don't think that the program would void any sort of warranty? How do you check a relay? do you just switch it with another one? I could not read all of your response because of the stupid ads by google, but i think I got most of it. thanx.

I wouldn't tell the Chevy dealer about the Superchips, they look for any excuse to void a warranty or charge you for repairs,,, must have been caused by the Superchips...

If the dealer toasts the program call Superchips, they should be able to help you out.

As far as the truck problem, I would look for a loose electrical connector, especially since they had the engine out. I installed a Trans-go kit a few weeks ago and didn't get the tranny electrical connector on right. The truck had guages, but nothing else worked, engine wouldn't crank until I seated the tranny electrical connector correctly.

The only way it can void a warranty is if they can prove that it contributed or caused the problem. IT'S THE LAW.

Most of the relays under the hood are interchangeable but some are not.

Car manufacturers and dealerships always follow the law?

If you tell the dealership you reprogrammed the PCM with the SuperChips and then they find out the PCM is bad or they have to re-flash it,,, guess what...

let's not fight. I am just going to take my chances. If I lose a 300 dollar programmer I guess I just lose it. thank you for all of the input. I just got into an unfortunate situation with no easy answer. I really appreciate the input.

#1 You tell the dealership you reprogrammed the PCM with a Superchips Tuner.

#2 The dealership has to replace the PCM, or re-flash the PCM, to fix the problem.

#3 The dealership hands you a fat $800 bill for a problem that the SuperChips "could have caused or contributed to".

#4 You have to prove to the dealership that there is no way possible the Superchips could have caused a problem with the PCM...

Good luck!

Nuff said,
DSW out!

I'd also check ALL fuses inside the truck and under the hood as well as the relays!

There ARE fuses AND Relays that will stop the truck from cranking!

I have blown a fuse that causes that. I have interupted a relay (on purpose) for anti-theft device. Either case stops my truck from starting and gives a fault in the display as "no bus"

Check it out. It could be that simple. I blew my fuse by hooking up a shorted radar detector wiring to it on the inside fuse box. Blow fuse. Truck no run.

Be careful when you tell a dealer that you installed anything on your engine ....... they could ask for the C.A.R.B E.O number ..... if ya don't have it the dealer can claim that you are in violation of the emission control system anti-tampering laws .....

So what are they going to do, turn you in to the feds?

Anyone out there actually have personal experience with this nonsense?

I don't have to tell the dealer my truck has "numerous" modifications and I still have it repaired under warranty. They have replaced the plenum gasket, water pump, catalytic converter, altenator and fuel pump. One mechanic even gave me a compliment on how well it ran and asked if he could take it for a spin.

Like I said, the dealer has no interest in "not" doing your warranty work. If the dealer went and told the warranty holder about all the mods and they decided to deny any further work then the dealer also loses.

Now if you have a 30-90 day dealer used car warranty that might be a different story and I don't think the same law applies.

the problem that you described was the same thing that happened to my 97 5.2 dak. what caused mine was a faulty durge protecter in the alternator(according to dodge)which sent too much power frying the pcm! i wound up buying a new alternator and a computer out of a dodge ram van out of a junk yard, its been running great ever since.
