Subject: 2001 Dak QC 4x4 IP: Logged
Message: I am considering buying a used 2001 Dak QC 4x4 sport 6cyl with
73,000 miles on it. I have never owned a Dodge, and only drove a
Dak once. (Iliked it obviously) I drive highway and stop n go traffic
everyday to and from work. Am I gonna go broke paying for gas?
When I go and check out this Dak, what should I be on the look out
for? Anything shout out from that year as a red flag? Should I be
concerned bout recalls etc.? Thanks for all your help,
Monk

Message: i say if it's NOT a manual trans don't buy it. a QC 4x4 is a very heavy truck for the 3.9. an auto would make it an absolute slug. and probably worse or the same mileage as as similar truck with a 4.7 or 5.9.
i know. i have an '00 4x2 QC w/ a 3.9. but i have a manual trans. it is not a road burner but it can get out of it's own way and makes avg. 22mpg. i ahve gotten as high as 24 on the hwy.
after driving my truck, there is no way i would get a QC/ 3.9/ auto. i can beat my bro-in-laws '02 CC w/ 3.9 auto.

Message: Yes, it is an automatic. Not really worried about speed or power, just milage per gallon. The QC comes in handy as kinda of a best of both worlds, I have two little kids, and we could use the pick-up. Maybe I should look into a smaller size truck? Never bought a foreign job before.
Thanks for the info!

Message: Yeah, you cant beat the look of the DAK. All the other mid to small size trucks look weak. I may test drive the 01 QC 4x4 Auto this weekend. Anything I should look out for?
thanks again!

Message: Very good advice the weight of the Quad is to much for a 6 Cyl it would get horrible gas M.

Message: I have a 3.9V6 and a manual trans Plus my truck is a Regular cab 4x4 and that v6 is still under powered for a regular cab the QC's must wieght in alot more. But in the v6 defence i have 3.55s so my truck is highway geared, but the thing still is a pig on gas. I average about 17MPG mixed driving

Message: Monk, check the front end good. 2 of the most common complaints, Brakes & Balljoints. as far as engines, there is no doubt the 4.7 is the latest design, and from postings on here, it's getting great reviews. and of course you can't forget the proven reliability of the ole 5.9.

Message: I have a 2001 4x4 (AWD) QC 4.7 with 107,000 miles and I love it. It looks and runs great. I've replaced the radiator, water pump, one of the tie rod ends, and one of the brake calipers. I know you said you were looking at a 3.9, and that would give you better gas mileage, but I would definitely recommend the 4.7. It gets about 5mpg less than the 3.9, but it runs so good, I think it's worth it. At least test drive one before you buy. If you have any qustions about my truck, feel free to ask.

Message: I found a 2001 QC 4x4 8 cyl. It has the 5.9. From the replies you guys recomend the 8 over the 6? Correct? And if so, the 4.7 or 5.9?
thanks again for the great info!

Message: Definately I have a 02 4.7 and get 20mpg avg with a very heavy right foot and 4.56 gears, granted its a reg cab but still 20mpg is pretty good for a V8 truck if you ask me. Have had mine for 45000 trouble free miles just put new brake pads on in early June. Aside from gas and oil, the set of brake pads is the only money I have spent on the truck (for repairs, have spent lots of money in modifications!).
