Subject: Engine Knock IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2004 Dakota with a 4.7 When the weather gets cold it will knock when it starts and will go away when it warms up. The cloder it gets the louder the knock gets and last longer and I mean loud. The dealers all tell me they won't do anything until the knock won't go away. Any solutions?

Message: My thoughts without an on hand inspection. Bad wrist pin or vertically cracked piston. If it was a rod or a main, it would have scattered before now.

Message: A new, better oil filter, with a better anti-drainback valve MAY help.

Message: I have this same exact problem with my 2001 4.7. It bothers the heck out of me. It runs great, just knocks BAD for about 1 min.

Message: Hollis and Rob,
That would bum me out too.
NO problems like this with my 01 4.7, knock on wood. 118,000 miles.
Try synthetic oil, (I use Mobil 1 super syn), remember SIX quarts. And definitely try a different filter.
Good luck

Message: I was thinking it knocked until warm. That's way to long to be a filter valve problem. But if it is less then a minute change your oil filter to one that performs as it should.

Message: try wix or napa gold filter (made by wix)
they show the lowest drop in oil pressure
