Message: Without hearing it in person i would have to say it sounds like the battery is dead. The clicking in the rear could be the fuel pump trying to come on.

Message: Yep, could be the battery. Easy to check and takes five minutes. Remove the battery cables and clean the posts and clamps with 400 grit sandpaper or emery cloth. Rehook and get them tight. Also meter the battery. Should be 13.5 volts or close if it is strong.

Message: 13.5v is actually a little high. A battery in perfect shape will be at 12.6v because each of a batteries cells produce 2.1v and automotive batteries have 6 cells. However 13.5v would be about right with the engine running at idle with all electrical loads off. You need to be looking for closer to 14-14.5v with the truck running and all electrical loads on

Message: One can also use the voltmeter gauge in the gauge cluster to check the battery voltage.
Just turn the key to the "On" position and see what it says. Even though it isn't marked very well, it should be obvious if the battery is really low on charge.
I just recently got a Yellow top Optima battery at Autozone. I couldn't be happier at how much better my truck starts. Of course, the old battery had a bad cell in it...
