Subject: Roller Rockers Gone Wild IP: Logged
Message: OK, I've been adjusting/re-adjusting/ and re-adjusting these darn Comp Cams 1.7 roller tip rockers.
Luckily I drive a company car to work, because this Dakota has been sitting for over 2 months...
If the roller rockers aren't adjusted right, it makes the motor run real rough and no power.
I have gotten so frustrated, I have been considering selling the truck and getting something totally different. I have also considered buying a whole new engine, but i can't bring myself to it, just because I can't get the roller rockers adjusted.
Any suggestions out there? What is the trick to getting the adjustment right?
I bought them from KRC, who I am now convinced, doesn't care at all about the products they are selling, once they have been paid for! I have bought so much stuff from these people in the past few years, but on these roller rockers, they are just not even helpful at all! No instruction in the box. Wrong instructions over the phone, and a I don't care attitude, has got me just fuming!
Throw me a life line man!

Message: dabald i sent you 2 sets of instructions from Comp cams let me know when you receive them. It sounds like the rockers are still too loose yet which is good better than too tight and start breaking pushrods follow the instructions closely and you should be fine.

Message: If you really can't get it figured out and you still want roller rockers
then order some harland sharpes. They just bolt straight down and
don't need any adjustment.
Hope you get it working one way or another.

Message: The Comp Cams rockers are bear to get adjusted. I've built many engines over the years and they gave me fits. You just have to take your time and follow the instructions, very carefully if it's your first time adjusting rockers. 3/4 of a turn on the preload worked the best on my 3.9. Just take your time and you can get it.

Message: I've tried several methods and the best I've found is the following.
Adjust them so that they are just a bit on the loose side. Remove the wire from your ignition coil. Have someone turn over the engine while you finish tightening them by hand. I mean literally by hand and no wrech. It rarely take more than a half dozen turns of the engine to get zero lash. Lock the the rockers in place per the manufacturers instruction.
My rockers have always been as quiet as can be.
