Subject: 2006 Dakota Exhaust Question IP: Logged
Message: I recently installed a flowmaster cat back system on my 06 quad cab, when installing I noticed that the kit still left a resinator ahead of the muffler, was wondering if I removed it and replaced it with a straight pipe if I would gain sound/performance, I suspect Flowmaster left this in the system to keep noise out of the cab. If anyone has removed this please let me know your results, Thank You!

Message: Sure it's a resonator; and not a cat ? Some Dakotas come with two precats, and then another cat after the y-pipe - with the O2 sensors on the pre cats. My experience with resonators has been that they are usually installed after the muffler. Is there a heat shield on it ?

Message: It has no heat shield or 02 sensors, it looks just like a turbo muffler. Maybe it is a cat though?

Message: Not sure, I heard there were resonators on some of the newer ones; I'd think a cat might have a heat shield. Probably a diagram of pollution info on a sticker under the hood, that might help.

Message: I saw a customer's newer Dak the other day.
It had the resonator. They are mounted at an angle (kind of cheasy too) on the rear tail pipe.
I have no clue WHY Dodge thought no one would want to hear the nice rumble of the V8???
It was defenitely quieter than my stock 2003 4.7 was.

Message: When the first 03 hemi rams came out they had a normal double cat and single muffler setup and they sounded fairly good stock. The 04 and up versions had this little auxillary muffler added to the tailpipe section that took a lot of the sound (and some power, I assume) out of the trucks. I heard it was due to loud exhuast complaints from customers and heard it was from federal noise standards from DCX tech instructors. Whatever, cut the bastard off and you will have no ill effects.

Message: Hey Eldon, I too have a 2006 Dakota and I'm going to install a Flowmaster 50 Series Delta flow which is smaller than the stock muffler. Can you tell me where you located the correct length tailpipe?
