Subject: how much of a power loss will i get???? IP: Logged
Message: hey yall i got a super 40 flowmaster and it sounds like crap i am disappointed with it i was wanting know a few things about some choices i am gonna have to make. first i want louder and better sounding exhaust. so i was thinking of running straight pipes out the side but i wanna know if that is gonna make me lose horsepower...i still will have the cats on so theres one option/question? ok or i was gonna just run a single flow pack muffler and split it into two pipes and run out the side? or i was gonna do some spintech? any suggestions or info on loudness or power loss or torque loss? oh it will all be 2.5" pipe by the way. or i am looking for any suggestions on what is louder than a 40 series flowmaster on a 4.7L 2004 dakota sport? i wanna get the sniper kit for my truck with the borla exhaust i believe is what comes with it but that wont be for awhile so i wanna make du with somethin new. thanks for any info

Message: Have true duals on my 4.7 with two spintech mufflers and she sounds awesome. It is a lot louder than when i had a cat-back flowmaster original 40 on it. deffinately recommend those mufflers for those of you that want to be loud and proud!
Now if you want to get more power out of your exhaust than get rid of your stock y-pipe and go to a true dual setup as i did or get an aftermarket y-pipe installed by a muffler shop. No matter what muffler you put on a 4.7 you won't gain any noticeable amount of power unless you get rid of the stock y-pipe it is a big restriction.

Message: hey kota kid got a question i've always been interested in spintech since i heard it on a supercharged 5.9 i test drove i loved the sound. now did u just get the mufflers and then have the pipes custom made or is there a kit already for them? and what muffler do you have exactly? thanks

Message: I got a kit through GS Motorsports made by spintech. It was a complete kit from the headers back with 2 high flow cats, i'm not sure what mufflers they are but they are roughly the same size as a Flowmaster original 40. You can check it out on gsmotorsports.com, it was pretty expensive but i love the way it sounds so i don't care. Its also completely mandrel bent with a x-pipe for maximum flow.
Oh yeah just a warning if you want loud don't get a borla system they don't sound all that good and they aren't loud at all, at least none that i have heard. Worked on a 360 Ram that had a borla cat back and i think even a 50 series Flowmaster is louder and they are quieter than a 40 series.

Message: You can buy Spintech direct http://www.spintechmufflers.com/spintech/spintechindex.asp
But I've had good results from Magnaflow

Message: My understanding actually is the 4.7 will respond best to a single low restriction muffler and single 3 or 3.5-inch exit. Not the loudest and not exactly the look everybody wants on their truck but it provides the most consistent power gains.

Message: hmmm...well i cut my pipe last night right at the muffler....that made it a bit louder. especially when its in overdrive or 5 or 6 grand but now i here like a whistle noise coming out of it at those rpm's i think its just cause its stirring the sound around under my bed. anybody know what it might be?

Message: eddy - the key to a well tuned exhaust is maintaining the proper exhaust velocity for cylinder scaveging at the cylinders. A 3" single is just one way to do it; a properly sized dual exhaust will work as well. The trick is in the sizing.
Lead, follow, or get out of the way
