Message: what are the best superchargers for a 99' 318. i really want this truck to scream down the road. cause theres. plenty of rice boys running around with Stealths and 3000gt's and I'm tired of beating rangers,s-10s and japcrap. so i need something to compete with those twin turbos in the stealths and 3000gt's. the truck really moves all ready but its never enough theres always more to do. the supercharger is going on after i get my keystone good hood with the single center scoop and fabricate so brackets so i can route it right into my intake. i was looking at Procharger, Kenne Bell, Paxton, and Powerdyne. also what will i need to strengthen up for the stress of forced induction and maybe nitrous down the line a way. certainly something i don't want to mess with now .and is there any way to bore out my 318 to 408 if not i can get a built 360 for about 3grand but id rather keep the original 318 block if possible cause me an a buddy bought truck together and are just trying to out run each other and new chargers and magnums pretty much anything that will run against us but we kinda brought the heat to our small town of 300 since we went running down old deserted road outside town where we all race at well a hundred-plus but it was only us cause it was during a basketball game and the cops zeroed in on us and my truck is visible from well the moon. since we both have 318's id like to keep that at an even base to build up. so pretty much i and him want to go big and need big engines in light vehicles. which is what started the muscle cars any how right we're just trying to keep it going an its 10:30 and I've been up since going to work so i can buy parts since 3:30 so I'm rambling

Message: whoa, slow down testosterone boy! you're going about it all wrong. a blown and juiced 318 isn't gonna compete against those cars. i take that back. it will just long enough till the crankshaft is layin on the ground. i'll chime in later after you've waken up from your dream. then we'll talk some serious turkey.

Message: The 360 can be bored and stroked to 408. Typically, the 318 is bored and stroked to 390, but can be bore a bit more for 402 IF, after sonic testing, the cylinder walls prove to be thick enough.

Message: Just boost the crap out of the 318 until it blows and then do the 360. (Try not to blow it up though). Seriously what I mean is don't worry about doing the work to swap in a 360 unless your 318 craps out for good (like rammers).
Do a Supercharger or turbo and figure out how to get it tuned and it will be fun.
As we were learning on Rammer's 318 with the turbo he was within a few tenths of a Lightning at the track with his Ram, so I KNOW it would be possible for a 318 Dakota 2WD to do well with those cars you mentioned UNLESS they are modded quite a bit form stock. Although a VR4 would not have traction issues.... :P

Message: Vin diesel, you are diffently right i dont need the juice since i will already be pumpin out alot of power. and graphitedak i would like to keep the 318 but bore it out a put on a supercharger if possible. any blowers better than others or mods that i need to do to strengthen up the internals for the stress of the blower

Message: Boring does very little in the way of increasing displacement. To get major increases you have to stroke the engine. Also, you won't be able to run much in the way of nitrous using the stock cast pistons. Same for high boost. Shoot for much more than 9psi and it'll melt the pistons.

NOT TRUE GEN1DAK. on my ram i was running 12psi on stock motor w/ of course cometic head gaskets
and a boost timing manager to retard timing when it was under boost. i never had problems w/ pistons melting.

Message: would i have to change the pistons to a high strength alloy incase i move up to high boost levels and cant i bore out and stroke the engine. i've heard that Procharger is the best supercharger for the dakotas is this true anyone have experence with this

Message: procharger is a good piece. regarding the pistons, forged pistons along with forged rods and crank are always prefered when boosting.

Message: I'm speaking in relative terms, rammer, don't have a spasm. There are a number of variables that determine the absolute maximum boost one can safely run with cast pistons. An engine with 9.5:1 compression ratio may safely run 9psi, while the same engine with 8.5:1 CR will get away with more boost (12psi or a little more), for example. However, 9psi is a good safe upper limit on a street-driven engine unless, as you have mentioned, you delve into boost retard devices, etc., to tweak out every last ounce of boost.

Message: Like they said, boring wont do anything except make your cyclinder walls THINNER! LOL!
Stoking is ok, but if you go with boost you can pretty much always tune for the power you want so I wouldn't even bother with that. Just replace the stock head gaskets with the good ones Rammer and I had to use on his and get a good intercooler as well. Run the hell out of that 318.
You could then start building a new engine while you run that one if it's not enough to have a 400HP 318 :)

forged rods
forged crank
forged pistons
head gaskets
and of course tthe procharger
anything i forgot

Message: Pigs must have been flying for YEARS then!
How is 400+ so hard to believe out of a turbo/blown 318? People get 400HP out of Turbo 2.0 inline 4's! My friend built a N/A 360 that is 400HP+ all motor built for another 400HP of NO2 which will be used in a daily driver Duster. IF he ever installs it. He has the engine and I have seen what he has done to it. Just hasn't reinforced the old Duster and Tranny yet for the engine.
Rammer's 318 had to have been fairly close to 400HP even with the sad tuning we were doing to it. It dropped almost 3 seconds in the 1/4 mile from when it was stock. It would have been reliable if we would have done the proper gaskets in the beginning and been able to tune it better.
