OTHERWISE I THINK YOUR CLUTCH PLATES WILL SLIP AND CLATTER??

Message: yep, most if not all clutch type LSD require a 'friction modifier' additive to prevent clutch chatter, you might notice some jerking in the rear diff when going around sharp corner an pavement.
Add just enough additive 'till that jerking stops,
test it doing slow 'figure-8's' in a parking lot.

Message: and as mentionned by PECKERHEAD,
some gear lubes already have the additive
inside their formulation.

Message: Heed the previous excellent advice.
I don't need the additive in my Dakota, maybe because of the unit, but others here, also using Amsoil have needed it. So, if it chatters, add the additive.

Message: The best additive comes from Ford. All the diff shops I've talked to recommend that. Stop by the Ford dealer and get some.

Message: I've got 163K on my '01 with 9.25" 3:92LSD. OEM gear oil needs the friction modifier. I used Amsoil once and never needed the modifier. I currently have Mobil1 synthetic in, but after 20K, needed to add modifier. Still do drain interval at 40K, even with Amsoil.
