Message: Whats up guys? Havent ever posted on here, but read almost every one of the posts since I got my Dak back in 2005.
Was at Greer Dragway in South Carolina this past Thursday. Needless to say, had a blast, got plenty of videos. Fact of the matter, I went knowing my friends wanted me to race my Dakota. Didnt know there would be 3000 people! So I just stuck to the shadows and scoped out the territory. But they opened their big mouths and then everyone was asking about my truck and wanted me to race :(.. So this Thursday, March 29th.. I'm gonna show up and give it a few runs.
Wont get into the street races.. but theres some insanely nice sports cars that held nothing against the old 4.7 under the hood. They never expected it lol.
But just wanted to invite any North/South Carolinians with any Dakotas to come out to Greer Dragway and maybe run against me or meet up and hang out.
At the same time, Anybody from North Carolina or upstate South Carolina, leave a post, would like to see how many there really are :)

Message: It sucks that its only a 1/8th mile track.
I normally just go run at Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, GA. Its only an hour away from my house.

Message: Ok so this bites. I'm going through some college work right now. After making such a big deal about racing, I put two schedules together and I have a test on Thursday at 6:00 at our college. It would work out if I lived in Greer lol.
Maybe next week though, because next week is college spring break so I wont have any tests.
Question though.. Does ring and Pinion have anything to do with your tires burning out?
I wanted to know if both of my tires burnout or just one. So today I tried it, and only one spins. So I tried putting it in reverse and backing up about 15 yards, because some vehicles can do that to kick POSI in. But it still didnt work.
When I bought my truck, my rear end was making a howling noise when you let off the gas, the dealer only had it 2 days before I bought it. So they kept it and took 4 weeks to put a new ring and pinion in it. Specifically, a Chrysler, 2 Dodges, and finally a Jeep ring and pinion which is whats in it now.
So would that be the reason I cant burn both tires no matter what I do?

Message: If you look on the axle tube close to the brakes, there sould be a tape wraped around the tube.It tells you your axle ratio, wich says somthing like 3:55.It will say open diff, which is what it sounds like you got.Or it will say trac lock which is a limited slip.

Message: After further inspection I never found the piece of tape. Although I have looked under there before. But it didnt make any difference i guess. Cuz they didnt take the rear axle out or anything, I dont think. I wasnt there to watch, but from what I understand they just changed a bunch of the innerds around until they got a combination that didnt make the howling noise.
Of course it was a dealership (in auto advantage) where the truck was bought.
Sooo they were working under warranty and did it as cheap as possible.
On another thread they talked about a Mopar Performance LSD. Think I might go for that, if your gonna sink money into something, be sure to get the best.

Message: It didnt say on there either. I saw that sticker before, I knew I had a 3.55 ratio. But the fact they changed everything as cheap as possible, thats what makes me mad. A perfectly good tire roasting, drag racing, great on gas Dodge Dakota. Just so they could save a few bucks instead of returning it to the way they took it apart.
Thats ok, saves on tires for the lead foot in us all. Not that we wanna save on tires necessarily :)

Message: 4.56's would be great :) Everyones always putting 4.10's in their trucks.
I put wider tires on mine.. went to 255/65 16's, but really should have put fender flares on before doing so. Theres rust coming through the paint on the very top of the tire well, on the outside of the body panel. Looks like Poop.
Also theres long, light dirt scratches on the rear of the body panel, between the bumper and the tire. The wider tires look great though besides those two problems.

Message: Take your vin number to the dealership. They can't print out a sheet with all the info on what your truck came from the factory with.
Stay away from the factory LSD. They break often and are very expensive to fix. A clutch style LSD is junk...find a Detroit locking style rear if you want a good one. I would say you had An open rearend. The whine you are describing is a common problem in the open rearends. I had to replace mine due to the same reason, it is the carrier bearings going bad that causes the whine. I drove mine with the whine for over a year before replacing them.
