hello all...I've been reading the threads on this site and have learned ALOT about dakotas and mag engines. I have searched through well over 150+ pages of threads, but could not find any exact answers to my questions. Here's my situation and problem(s):
I have a 360 mag out of a '94 ram that has (among other things) an edelbrock rpm air-gap manifold with a 650 cfm carb up top. I am now in search of a dak to put it in. I would love to slap it in a short bed/reg cab 2WD manual dak that is the 91-96 style. However, finding this truck that already has a V8 in has proven to be harder to find than a nun that moonlights as a stripper! I have found a decent amount of V6 daks that have all the features listed above, along with many daks from 87-90 with the aforementioned features. Now, with all that being said, if I were to buy one of the V6 daks (91-95), could I throw in the 360 and use the stock manual tranny? Or would I toast it (and/or the clutch)the first time that I hit the gas with any amount of authority? Also, would it be possible to use the 360 mag and a V8 man. trans. in an 87-90 dak that already had a manual? My thinking is that if it already had all the parts for a manual, you may be able to swap in the newer tranny w/little probs? I am asking about manual trans. 'cause I'm thinkin that you would need to keep the TB (and computer and sensors, etc...) in order to make the auto trans (that backed the mags) to function properly. However, if I am totally wrong with thinking that the autos would be a pain, please do not hesitate to tell me how wrong I am. Or, if there are other auto trans that will work in daks, I would very greatly like to hear about them. (I read that a 727 will work, but will it bolt right into a dak?) WHEW! Sorry for such a long post, but I need very specific answers. Thanks in advance.

you could use a 727 but, you may not have any trouble with a 46RH. 4spd but hydraulically controlled and not electronically controlled.

Some of the V6 engines had the stronger NV3500 transmission but I think in later years.
I actually have a NV3500 2WD transmission for sale still..

Thanks very much for the info! GraphiteDak, what state do you live in? I live in Pa, so I don't know if I'd get reamed in shipping costs. That trans of yours looks pretty good, though. How do you tell which trans is in a dak? Do you just take the vin to a dealer, or is there a marking somewhere that tells you that?

Manual tranny:
V6 Daks below model year 2000 got AX-15 tranny
V6 Daks model year 2000-2004 got the nv-3500
V8 Daks 1994??-2004 got the nv-3500
V8 4X4 Daks 1997-2004 got the nv-3500(HD)

I live in Arizona. So it would be a long ways for shipping LOL! I haven't a clue what that would cost.
Too bad Rammer has to spend all of his money to get that 360 in his Ram to replace the blown up 318. We could have some fun sticking the NV3500 in his Ram.

hey graphitedak, i appreciate the offer anyway. i came across someone mentioning car-parts.com on here and looked there and there are a few there that are within relatively close driving distance:) and thanks also for the info you provided anthony. Also, I just bought a '92 dak with all of the features that i wanted, except that it has a V6 in it...how would i tell what rearend it has? is there a tag or number on the rearend that would tell me, or could i simply count the number of bolts on the cover and use that to tell me?
