Subject: Need Advice on how to Buff up my 3.9 IP: Logged
Message: I opted for the V6 instead of the V8 because of some dealership problems. Now that I have my V6 I need to know, what sort of Mods can I do it that are under $600? I have a extended cab, 4x4, short bed, 1997 Dakota. I have a Gibson, with a K&N filter, but I really need a boost. Any suggestions? I love the looks of the Dakota, and I have a perfect 480 hp, 306 monster all spec'd out, but thats going to run me around 8 grand or so. What is cheap, dirty, and can get me a few more horses?
BTW love this board, first day here, and I'm loving it after being bashed and flamed to death on the GM boards.

Message: Well, there is a lot of stuff you can do, but from the stuff I've done, I'd have to say the throttle body would be the best bang for the buck. I got the Flometrics TB, and It really changed the way my truck drives. BTW, I have the Y2K version of your truck.
The other cheap thing I did was replace the cap and rotor with Borg Warner stuff, new 8mm wires, and Autolite 3923 plugs. 180 T-stat is next up (got it from Speedtweaks today), and Probably an IAT adjuster soon. Thats probably right around your $600 mark. The only other mod I have is JBA headers. Bang for the buck, I would do the headers last if I was doing it over.
