I just bought a 2006 V8 Quad and I would like your advice on what the first thing I should do to boost performance. Something that won't break the bank.

How much performance are you looking for?
How much would it take to break the bank?

Anyways, after the new filter or CAI. You should look into a performance chip/tuner. Not sure what is available for your setup, but they are usually in the $400 range and are good for a few pony's and possible some MPG's.

Reprogram the computer. Best thing I ever did for my truck. It's cheap power. Total installation time is about 20 minutes - uncluding opening the box and reading the isntructions.

K&N drop in filter will not add any power. CAI will add a little.

THanks guys. I was thinking of a K&N filter. I had one in my 04 dakota and definately a chip sounds good. Any one in particular and does that affect any of my warranty? Isn't that part of the Magnuson Act that it doesn't interfere with any warranty on the truck. I'm just starting out on tweeking my truck to get the most out of my V8 so I will get the filter and chip. Do you use JET or another?

I'v heard JET isn;t that good.I bought the Hypertech. And you can tell a nice difference.Hypertech,or superchips.
And yea you wont tell anything with just a drop in K&N.Get the whole cold air intake.
Then look at a set of headers, and a cat back exhaust.Either Flowmaster,or Magnaflow.

Jason,Geneva,

the drop in, cold air intake, or a cat back, will do little if anything for your 4.7.

If you change the y pipe, and then true dual it, it will do more than just headers on the 4.7.

A tuner like the Superchips has consistently shown a small gain, but I've heard they don't have one for an 06?

Some of the best bang for the buck, are cams, starting with the stock, mild HO cams.

01, 4.7, QC,
manual, LSD, yadda, yadda,
making 227RWHP and 300 RWTQ, (Rear wheel dyno) they way I drive it daily, normally aspirated.

Hey guys, I've done some research on the net and can't find ANYONE who makes a chip for the 2006 Quad??!!! Do you know who makes one, if anyone? And thanks again, if I DO find one that's going on first. Keep the ideas coming!

Just don't go with a 'jet chip', until you see at least 3 consistent dynos with gains.

Expensive paperweight.

Do the exhaust first; everything besides stroke/sc/turbo/nos will only add a few hp and it takes a while for it all to build up. With the exhaust you'll get the throaty sound that you hear all the time and always be happy with it. If you want to go "homebrew"; make your own Cold air intake(pvc), throw some glasspack mufflers on, move the iat, bore down the intake runners (not sure if u need to on the 4.7, I have a 360).

If it were me I'd go in this order:
Dual Flowmaster 50 series (u can get bolton I think) $200-300
Bore down my intake manifold/boss injectors (Dremel) Free
Thermostat $3.00
IAT relocation $1.00
K&N Cold air intake ~$200
Nitrous Express 100 or 125 shot $600
New intake $150-200
Y-Pipe for exhaust $50-100
Headers $150-250

I'm not sure if the intake manifold/t-stat/iat work on the 4.7, they do on a 279/318/360. Basically that's the best way to get the most bang for your buck. NX is always fun and is very safe as long as you don't touch your timing; aka no chip.

Yes, the cams will give you a noticable gain and also a nice sound. 4.10 gears help too. Before spending $200+ on a Cold air intake (CAI), spend the money on something you'll actually notice. Just make a pvc CAI, cost me $52, $50 was the K&N Cone filter.

Why on earth would you buy a new Y pipe?? Dont understand that one...if you get a new true dual exhaust you should get an X pipe. X pipe will let the exhaust flow smoother without restriction yet still provide the proper back pressure.
