Subject: hurst shifter for '01??

I really really want to add a Hurst shifter to my Blown 2001 Dakota with the 4.7 and the nv3500 5 speed. The Hurst shifter on the market states it will not work on an '01. It only fits on a '00 and earlier. Why is this? What changed so much on the same transmission in '01 that was used in '00. This is very disappointing to me, and frustrating. I hate how hard it is to find aftermarket performance parts for my Dakota. I just don’t understand why more companies don’t make Dakota parts. Does anybody know of a shifter to fit my application? Please don't recommend cutting my stock shifter, that is just plain dumb.

Try Kiesler Automotive (www.kieslerauto.com). They do just about anything related to Mopar manual trannys. The reason for Hurst stopping their kit at '00 was the dashboard change in'01 that reduced the clearance to the shift knob. If you can search the old posts, there is a mod some guys have done to correct this, and still used a Hurst on '01-up. I still just use a Hurst leather knob on my '01 4.7 5-spd.
